Have you noted that the letters of the word database are typed with the left hand? Any standard keyboard is designed, among other things, to facilitate the use of both the hands. So, a database right from its spelling is not only unnatural, but also a lot more complex than it seems. We know that the passion of data based is not universally shared and folks think of it as some black box system which can be scary and complicated to understand. If you want to change that and you understand the beauty of data then you are looking at the right place.

As a Junior Database Administrator (DBA), your primary responsibility is to ensure that data is available, easily accessible as needed and protected from loss and corruption. Managing a very large database (VLDB), additional monitoring and tuning will be your key responsibility. DBAs are on call for troubleshooting in case of any problems, whether they need to quickly restore lost data or correct an issue to minimize damage, you need to quickly understand and respond to problems when they occur. The system may require different recovery strategies and as a DBA you must be prepared for any eventuality & challenges.

In a nutshell, you will keep the database up and running smoothly 24/7 and provide seamless flow of information and be available for on-call support as and when needed throughout the company, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users.

Expected Responsibilities:

• As a DBA, you need to develop and build database systems of high availability, high security and quality depending on each end user’s specialized role and ensure installation, configuration of the database software and make it ready for use while handling the on-going maintenance and transfer of data from the existing platform to the new platform
• You need to set, maintain database access and standards along with the performance of database servers
• You need to minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
• You need to create and manage database reports, visualizations and dashboards
• You would be responsible to create automation for recurring database tasks
• You need to create timely backup and recovery plans and procedures based on industry best practices, that make sure that the necessary steps are followed and recommend, implement emerging database technologies to the management as and when required.
• You need to know the potential weaknesses of the software and the overall system in order to implement best practices to minimize risks.
• You need to perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure complete data security, privacy and integrity.
• You need to timely monitor databases for performance issues and make configuration changes to the software or add additional hardware capacity, apply new patches and versions if need be.
• You need to proactively conduct performance tuning of database systems tune a system based on application and usage instead of waiting until a problem develops.

Expected Skills:

• BSc degree in Computer Science or BE along with experience for a consumer internet startup, experience in a business where you witnessed and were involved in product scaling from zero to 1 is great
• 2 to 4 years of experience in database administration, information technology, database architecture or related field
• Expertise in MYSQL and related server tools
• Knowledge of PowerShell and Unix shell scripting skills and understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling with a strong know-how of mathematical and statistical knowledge
• In depth and all round knowledge of MySQL, NO SQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, cloud services AWS RDS
• High on problem solving with excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity, performance monitoring standards
• An ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment with great multitasking skills
