We are looking for an experienced Staff Backend Engineer to join our dedicated technology team, which is focused on enhancing patient care through innovative technology. Our product is a pioneering healthcare device that serves as a companion to patients, facilitating enhanced monitoring and communication with healthcare providers. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in AWS services , specifically in AWS Managed Kafka, Kinesis, API Gateway, and Cognito, and be proficient in Java and Node.js . Additionally, experience with Amazon HealthLake, familiarity with FHIR standards, and a strong understanding of HIPAA compliance are critical for this role.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems for our healthcare companion device using AWS.
  • Utilize Amazon HealthLake to manage health data at scale, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and leveraging FHIR protocols to enhance interoperability.
  • Implement backend services in Java and Node.js, focusing on integration with AWS services to support real-time data processing and secure data handling.
  • Optimize data flow and processing using AWS Kinesis and manage real-time data streams with AWS Managed Kafka.
  • Ensure secure user management and scalable authentication and authorization processes with AWS Cognito.
  • Develop and maintain API interfaces using AWS API Gateway, ensuring robust security and compliance with healthcare standards.
  • Conduct rigorous testing and debugging to achieve high reliability and adherence to healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the architectural design sessions, advocating for best practices in scalable architecture while complying with FHIR standards and HIPAA regulations.
  • Facilitate continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) practices to improve development efficiency and deployment reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and proactive compliance with healthcare industry standards.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8-12 years of experience in backend development , with significant expertise in AWS cloud services .
  • Proven experience with AWS Managed Kafka, Kinesis, API Gateway, Cognito, and particularly Amazon HealthLake .
  • Proficiency in Java and Node.js , with strong coding practices and a commitment to code quality.
  • Demonstrated experience working with FHIR standards and in environments regulated by HIPAA.
  • Strong understanding of the technical and compliance aspects of handling sensitive healthcare data.
  • Excellent problem-solving, collaborative, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide and lead technical teams in a highly regulated environment.


Desirable:

  • AWS certifications, particularly those related to security and architecture (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Security - Specialty).
  • Experience in Agile development methodologies.
  • Prior exposure to regulated industries (e.g., FDA, CE marked products).
