Our Private Equity Portfolio Company practice serves both partnership and corporate companies, the majority of which are owned by Private Equity Funds.  This particular role offers the opportunity to join the C-Corp, a high-performing, high-growth team that advises clients on their tax strategy and compliance obligations using both industry and technical expertise with our cross-functional teams, especially our Financial Services team.  Our professionals help to guide their clients through M&A transactions and capital account analysis, all while delivering digitally enabled services in conjunction with our world-class tax technology offerings.

As a Tax Senior Manager with RSM, you will be responsible for the following job duties, which are focused around three core concepts: Technical & Quality Expertise, People & Talent Management, and Client Service/Business Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the business relationship of complex engagements with a focus on high-value quality tax advice and seek to expand services to clients.
  • Drive growth and profitability of industry/specialty area by generating new revenue on existing client portfolio, cross selling, and new clients for the tax practice.
  • Interact directly with clients handling questions, planning, consulting, etc. 
  • Serving as Tax client service coordinator while developing and executing the firm’s client service plan.
  • Reviewing research findings and ensure conclusions are consistent with firm policies and professional standards.
  • Serve as a Career Advisor, mentor, or coach to one or more employees, which will include providing honest and timely performance feedback.
  • Train and develop staff members.
  • Build relationships across lines of business to ensure excellent client service through an integrated service approach.
  • Manage corporate client needs with respect to tax services and federal and state tax compliance.
  • Remain up to date on current tax practices and changes in tax law.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Some travel may be required (varies based on location, line of business and client need).

Basic Qualifications:

  • 11+ years of corporate federal tax compliance and tax consulting experience pertaining to planning, research and general mergers and acquisitions activities experience in business taxation working for a Big 4 or a large national, regional, or local accounting firm, or equivalent in law firms or industry.
  • Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) / Bachelor of Business Management (Finance).
  • CPA or EA.
  • Strong Project Management and Critical thinking skills.
  • Must be able to support financial growth efforts and manage a book of business.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Business Administration, a plus.
  • Proven track record simultaneously managing multiple projects and engagement teams for various clients.
  • Worked and managed high quality work product on federal, state partnership, s corporation returns.
  • Ability to generate new business and extend service opportunities.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing accounting for income taxes in accordance with ASC 740’s.
  • Experience in dealing with international tax matters a plus.
  • Familiarity with tax research tools (Bloomberg BNA, RIA/Thompson Checkpoint, CCH Answer Connect etc.)  and tax preparation technology (CCH Axcess preferred).
  • Experience with OneSource Tax Provision Software.
  • Experience with OneSource Income Tax – tax return preparation.
  • Experience with CCH Access – tax return preparation.
  • Experience with ASC 740 Purchase Accounting.
  • Experience with M&A Purchase Price Allocations and Gain Calculations.
  • Experience with large multi-state consolidated C corporations.
