Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems on servers.Customize and optimize OS configurations based on security, performance, and application requirements.Implement and manage Linux server virtualization technologies.Server Hardware Maintenance:

Perform physical installation and configuration of server hardware.Monitor server health, hardware resource utilization, and perform routine maintenance.Collaborate with vendors for hardware upgrades and replacements.User Account Management and Access Control:

Set up and manage user accounts, groups, and permissions.Enforce access controls and security policies on Linux systems.Monitor user activity and ensure compliance with security standards.Package Management and Updates:

Manage software packages using package managers (e.g., YUM, APT).Apply security patches and updates regularly to keep systems current.Evaluate and test new software releases for compatibility.Backup and Recovery:

Develop and maintain backup strategies for data and system configurations.Implement disaster recovery plans and perform recovery operations when needed.Regularly test backup and recovery processes for effectiveness.Security and Compliance:

Implement security best practices and ensure Linux systems comply with industry standards.Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.Respond promptly to security incidents, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions.Network Configuration:

Configure and manage network interfaces, IP addressing, and routing on Linux servers.Set up and maintain firewall rules, VPNs, and network services (e.g., DNS, DHCP).Troubleshoot network-related issues and optimize network performance.Storage Management:

Configure and manage storage devices, file systems, and RAID configurations.Monitor storage capacity and performance and optimize as necessary.Implement backup solutions for critical data stored on Linux servers.Performance Monitoring and Tuning:

Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and logs.Identify and address performance bottlenecks through tuning and optimization.Conduct capacity planning to ensure resources meet organizational demands.Scripting and Automation:

Develop and maintain scripts using Bash, Python, or other scripting languages.Implement automation for routine administrative tasks and system provisioning.Leverage configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet for scalable automation.Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain detailed documentation of Linux server configurations, procedures, and incidents.Generate regular reports on system performance, security, and incidents for management.Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible to the IT team.Collaboration and Support:

Collaborate with other IT teams to resolve issues and implement new solutions.Provide technical support to end-users and assist in problem resolution.Document and share knowledge with team members.Continuous Learning:

Stay informed about the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in Linux administration.Pursue relevant certifications and professional development opportunities.Qualification / Skills Required:6+ years’ experience in Linux operating systems, including installation, configuration, and administration.Proficiency in server restarts and troubleshooting to identify and remediate issues effectively.Familiarity with virtual server (VM) migrations and the ability to execute migrations following design standards.Experience in system diagnostics, capturing system logs/dumps, and analyzing data to identify and resolve issues.Excellent console management skills, specifically with Avocent DSView, to provide administration and operational support.Broad understanding of administration, configuration, maintenance, and operational support of Linux systems.Ability to handle common services such as access provisioning, security vulnerability management, performance analysis, backup/recovery, license entitlement compliance, and product upgrades.Knowledge of standard operating procedures and compliance requirements.Familiarity with vendor licensing entitlements and ensuring ongoing compliance.Proficiency in troubleshooting latency issues and implementing appropriate solutions.Experience in security patching vulnerability management processes.Experience in automating common operational support processes with tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Python, PowerShellUnderstanding of Compute or Storage Devices is a huge plus.
