This position conducts system design activities to ensure that architectural solutions meet technical and functional requirements. They perform architectural analysis, evaluation, and design systems that support and seek to solve complex business and technical problems.

What you'll be doingKey Roles and Responsibilities:Provides technical expertise on system design activitiesAdvises on the review of application, software, and system components across a variety of technology stacksEnsures that architectural solutions meet technical and functional requirementsWork cross functionally review existing system architecture and recommend improvementsWork cross functionally in engineering reviews to determine any ambiguitiesLead the investigation and scoping of change requests to determine the scale of work to be done and estimate the timeframe and input requiredDetermine system loads and volumes as input into infrastructure requirementsEnsure that proposed and existing systems architectures are aligned with the company’s goals and strategiesEnable the design and development of new systems and solutionsEnsure that new systems and solutions conform to current system architecture and/or align to strategic system architectural directionLead architectural analysis, evaluation, and design of systems that support and seek to solve complex business and technical problemsEnable and ensure that system architecture is delivered in the form of robust and scalable solutions to business problems and needsIdentify, evaluate, and assess risks in order to mitigate them and eliminate any factor that may interfere or hinder the delivery of the architectural solution and dependent functional requirementsAdvises on specifications for solutions functional and technical requirements, and implementation phases required in order to deliver on and solve complex business problemsImplement processes for integrating architectural solutionsImplement architectural governance, standards, metrics for measuring, monitoring and improving architectureImplement and/or maintain the use of fitness functions to ensure architectural successProactively identify potential problems that could be remediated by more effective architectural solutionsEnsure team members understand system architectural implications of requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:Excellent communication and organisational skillsStrong business acumenExcellent ability to effectively deal with stakeholders in challenging situationsExcellent ability to navigate through complexity and ambiguityExcellent understanding of system architecture, design, and deliveryExcellent understanding of regulatory requirements and organisational standards including securityExcellent understanding of the system design life cycle modelsExcellent ability to design systems compatible with cloud computing architectures and selection of componentsExcellent ability to design and select system componentsStrong Planning and decision-making skillsStrong verbal and written communication skillsExcellent ability to use a variety of design toolsExcellent ability to problem-solve and apply critical thinkingExcellent understanding of software development practices, including Agile and CI/CDBroad expertise in containerization technologies, such as Docker/KubernetesBroad expertise in data security and privacy best practicesExcellent understanding of clean code concepts, design patternsTest driven (TDD) and behavioural driven development (BDD)

Academic Qualifications and Certifications:Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science or related etc.Relevant certifications requiredRecommended Certifications - Cloud Certifications (Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect)TOGAF Certification

Required Experience:Extended demonstrated experience in similar IT roles, with a focus on system design / architecture engineeringExtended demonstrated working experience in a large-scale organisationExtended demonstrated experience, judgment and drive to plan, make decisions and accomplish individual and team goalsExtended demonstrated experience with software development lifecyclesExtended demonstrated experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environmentExtended demonstrated systems and/or software development experience is essentialProficiency in cloud-based architectures, preferably in popular cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).Proficiency in designing and implementing scalable, distributed, and high-performance systems.Proficiency in software design and architecture, ideally with experience dealing with large datasets.Workplace type:Remote Working
