Basic Healthcare Services (BHS) is a not-for-profit organization with a vision of a world where marginalized and vulnerable communities lead a healthy life with dignity. The organization runs a network of AMRIT Clinics that provide high-quality and low-cost primary health care to rural and tribal communities in south Rajasthan.
Six such clinics serve a population of nearly 100,000, approximately 90% of which is tribal. BHS is a leading voice on primary healthcare in India and also conducts implementation research aimed at strengthening the public health systems. Who are we looking for?
With this as the backdrop, BHS is poised to emerge as a knowledge and resource organization in the primary healthcare sector. Centre for Primary Healthcare (CPHC) will draw from the rich knowledge, experience and evidence of our own work, as well as that of other similar grounded organizations; conduct intramural and extramural research, enable others to design and implement primary healthcare initiatives; and inform healthcare policy for the marginalized.
We are looking for a senior colleague from the sphere of healthcare and research to set up and spearhead the research vertical of CPHC over next few years. We envision that the person will be deeply committed to health equity, has an in-depth understanding of healthcare of the marginalized, and has significant skills and experience in designing and implementing community health and health systems research. Experience of leading teams, setting research agenda and mentoring leading teams would be very helpful for this role.
Analytical thinking, ability to write for scientific and lay communities, and convert complex ideas into easier to understand thoughts and writings would be quite helpful too. Those who would want to transition to a more fulfilling and meaningful role, and work in a stimulating environment may especially be attracted to apply.
Key Responsibilities
1) Leading Extramural Research
BHS is currently working on couple of extramural research projects which you will immediately become part of and co-ordinate and lead from the organization’s side.
Early childcare and development, nutrition, tuberculosis, mental health are some thematic areas BHS is focused on. Having domain expertise of these is beneficial.
Further, identifying other potential areas of research collaboration and forging the required partnerships to bring them live.
2) Championing Intramural Research and Knowledge Management
Design and implement community based research in association with various thematic teams of BHS to generate praxis knowledge for the larger primary healthcare community as well as understanding the impact of intervention and suggesting future action course.
Guide the BHS team to develop and maintain a KMS – knowledge management system for internal documentation and institutional memory, which also feeds directly into CPH’s work.
Support the BHS management group to nurture the team and bring a temperament of inquiry in all aspects of work.
3) Inception and nurturance of the Centre for Primary Healthcare (CPHC)
Work closely with the BHS management to draw strategy and implementation roadmap.
Build and mentor a research/knowledge management/capacity building team for fulfilling the objectives of CPHC.
Mobilize resources for research vertical of CPHC.
Draw outreach and dissemination strategy to take research findings to the larger healthcare community.
