Job Overview:
As an Architectural Technician, you will play a crucial role in the design and construction process of residential buildings within the Canadian construction industry. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and construction professionals to ensure that designs are executed accurately and efficiently.
Job Description:
- Collaborate with clients and project stakeholders to understand design requirements, objectives, and constraints.
- Develop conceptual designs, sketches, and renderings to communicate design ideas effectively.
- Produce detailed architectural drawings, plans, and specifications using CAD software.
- Ensure that designs comply with building codes, zoning regulations, and other applicable standards.
- Conduct site visits and assessments to gather relevant information and assess project feasibility.
- Participate in design reviews and meetings to present and discuss design proposals with team members and clients.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other consultants to integrate structural, mechanical, and electrical systems into the design.
- Provide support during the construction phase by responding to RFIs (Requests for Information) and reviewing shop drawings.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and emerging technologies in architecture and design.
- Contribute to the development of innovative design solutions that meet client needs, budget constraints, and sustainability goals.
Requirements
- College Diploma in Architectural Technology : Possess a diploma in Architectural Technology from an accredited institution, providing a solid foundation in architectural principles, drafting techniques, and construction technology.
- Minimum 3 Years of Residential Drafting Experience : Have a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in residential drafting within the Canadian construction industry, demonstrating proficiency in creating accurate and detailed technical drawings
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp 3D : Showcase over three years of practical experience working with AutoCAD and SketchUp 3D, with the ability to produce high-quality 2D and 3D drawings and models
- Comfortable Collaborating on Design and Construction Details : Demonstrate ease in collaborating with Design and Construction Leads to develop and refine design concepts and construction details, ensuring alignment with project objectives and requirements
- Highly Skilled in AutoCAD : Possess advanced skills in AutoCAD, with the ability to efficiently create comprehensive construction drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details
- Knowledge of Residential Construction : Have a deep understanding of residential construction, encompassing both renovations and construction, including familiarity with materials, methods, and industry best practices
- Experience in Creating Comprehensive Construction Drawings : Showcase proficiency in creating comprehensive construction drawings, including detailed mill work drawings, structural details, and accurate translations of sketches and notes into construction documents
- Development and Building Permit Experience : Possess experience in navigating the development and building permit processes, ensuring compliance with local building codes, zoning regulations, and the Land Use Bylaw
- Adequate Knowledge of Local Building Codes : Demonstrate a strong understanding of current, local building codes, and regulations, ensuring that designs and construction documents meet all necessary requirements
- Ability to Create Bid Packages : Capable of developing bid packages, understanding trade roles and responsibilities, and organizing the chronological order of the construction process to facilitate smooth project execution
- Capacity to Work on Several Projects Concurrently : Exhibit the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Exceptional Organization and Communication Skills : Possess excellent organizational and communication skills, enabling clear and concise communication with team members, clients, and stakeholders, and facilitating seamless collaboration within a team environment.
