The Global Strategy for Society Programs is the Society’s newly formed team to provide region specific & culturally relatable, and meaningful engagement with current and future ACS constituents including ACS members & associates. The incumbent plays an important role by providing critical insights from programs products and services data and suggesting strategic tactics to enhance the effectiveness and impact of PPS across different regions.


Position Summary

ACS is seeking an agile and proactive professional to help grow ACS’s global footprint. This individual will ideate, adapt, and implement programs and products for the global scientific community in-line with ACS core values and strategic priorities. The role would involve Program Management, Project Management, cultural intelligence, collaboration, and cooperation with diverse stakeholders within and outside the organization. The incumbent should possess a deep appreciation and understanding of the STEM scenario, particularly in chemistry and allied sciences. The incumbent will need to work closely with different divisions and departments in ACS headquarters in Washington DC to get alignment and effective positioning for ACS programs and products. This individual will play a pivotal role in elevating ACS's support for the global scientific community, focusing on establishing contacts, orchestrating collaborative events, and growing the reputation and reach of ACS programs, products, and services within the region.


Work design: Demonstrates knowledge of the organization and STEM landscape, methods and procedures. Assists with developing and implementing short- and near-term strategies for the business unit. Follow procedures and policies. Work involves representing a highly visible department of the organization. Operating in a startup like environment/set up.

Expected tasks

This position description is reflective of some of the tasks/functions/responsibilities that may be required to be performed by an incumbent in this job.


  1. Strategy Development: Develop and deploy Go-to market strategies for various geographies, cultures, and career levels. Accordingly, also identify and cultivate relationships with leading research institutions, scientific organizations, and scientists globally to establish collaborative annual events and initiatives.
  2. Market Research and Analysis: Monitor scientific trends, research and business developments, innovation opportunities relevant to the portfolio and programs being handled.
  3. Event Planning and Coordination: Oversee and execute scientific conferences and symposia, especially in the virtual space, including theme selection, speaker invitation, and logistics management.
  4. Scientific Outreach Support: Assist in organizing and conducting scientific outreach efforts, such as webinars and teleconferences and in-person events. This also includes developing presentations, infographics, write ups, and reports for online-offline interactions. The incumbent is expected to own the creation/curation of online content based on insights from customer research, internal stakeholders, and analysis of content consumption using templates and guidelines to adhere to brand, customer journeys, targeted personas, and creative platform guidelines.
  5. Innovate: Based on social listening and empathy mapping, the incumbent is expected to innovate and improve programs, products, and services. For this, the incumbent is expected to develop strategy documents, identify collaborations within and from outside ACS, and manage small to big projects for the overall success of the assigned program.


However, as per the organizational needs, the incumbents will be assigned and are required to perform other functions.

Expected to travel ~20-25%



Required Education and Experience

  1. Masters Degree or equivalent required. PhD preferred, but not essential.
  2. 5+ years’ experience including 2+ years of experience as projects lead.
  3. Knowledge of the Scientific Landscape: Familiarity with the STEM research ecosystem and publishing ecosystem.
  4. Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to cultural differences and an understanding of the academic and scientific context.
  5. Exposure to product and people management concepts will be a plus


Additional Information

  1. Location: This position requires the candidate to be based in India, with frequent travel to various research institutions within the country.
  2. Collaboration: The role involves close collaboration with ACS’s team in Washington DC, other scientific constituents globally, and local partners in India.
