Roles & Responsibilities:
Responsible for leading a design and development team to ensure the delivery of new Product from the concept stage to the development of prototypes through till finished product is ready for manufacture.
Drive creative thinking, ensure customer needs are considered and collaborate with the operations team to ensure products are designed for efficient manufacture.
Deliver the agreed engineering objectives established in the Annual Operating Plan and consider the organization longer-term strategy road map.
Work on multiple major projects requiring innovative solutions that advance the technical field.
Implement and manage continuous improvement principles by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes. Overall ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to.
Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
Ability to capture and specify the design requirements and the development and validation needed to deliver successful systems, products, and components to meet/exceed the customer’s specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Development:
• Connect with different business verticals, product marketing, manufacturing and supply chain / category teams to identify synergistic opportunities to develop new products for Aliaxis
• Work in collaboration with program management team, simulation team, sourcing team to coordinate activities with other engineering resources, cross functional teams, external partners and ecosystem to ensure timely completion of the project milestones utilizing internal project execution processes, including Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Technical Reviews.
• Generate and manage a new project/product portfolio for each individual business vertical(s) within Aliaxis and lead a team to generate 3D models and development systems, products, and components using CAD tools, SolidWorks and Creo.
• Lead the responsibility of Design and development activities including Request for Quotations (RFQs), Design freeze / release, Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Design Verification/Product Validation (DV & PV) testing and Computer-aided engineering (CAE).
• Lead team to generate comprehensive drawings and with proper GD&T.
• Create initial feasibility studies and conceptualize innovative designs and revisions.
• Provide support to production to improve lead times.
• Improve reliability performance to reduce or eliminate warrantable issues in the field.
• Early onboarding of vendors to shorten product development timelines.
• Analyse issues to resolve issues, for example stresses, using tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
• Drive innovation and ‘think outside the box’ to generate engineering advantage for customers, thinking creatively to develop new/improved solutions.
• Identify and implement design improvements (functionality, cost, design for manufacture).
• Report on achievement of targets, progress and identify any actions required.
• Embrace and champion continuous improvement.
• Liaise closely with all departments to fully understand requirements and deliveries.
People Management
• Assign engineering resources to projects.
• Manage the design and development team to produce a range of concepts for new products, updating existing product designs.
• Motivate and coach the team to operational success.
• Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure superior performance and record on appropriate systems.
• Consistently promote and set ambitious standards through personal example.
• Lead the team in new product development projects.
• Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports.
• Communicate KPIs from the strategic annual plan and set team goals.
• Provide technical expertise to the team.
Qualifications:
• Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree, BE/BTech/ME/MTech/PhD.
• Minimum work experience BTech/MTech + 12 years, PhD+7 years.
• Strong working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD, GD&T is necessary.
• In depth knowledge and experience of DFMEA, FMEA, APQP, PPAP, and Six Sigma/DFSS.
• Experience of testing and prototyping.
• Knowledge and experience of thermoplastic molding processes, and in general processing of plastics.
Skills & Competencies:
Broad experience of working in R&D set-up or Manufacturing industry.
Able to demonstrate experience of working with relevant products.
Good understanding of process and experience in implementing the same.
Comfortable with firsthand engineering and possess strong knowledge of production processes.
Good eye for details.
Leadership, motivation, and resource management skills
Proven project management skills with experience in team building.
Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal).
Integrity and strong commercial capability.
