Job Summary
Assistant Vice President – Horticulturist and Landscape Works will lead the strategic planning, execution, and long-term maintenance of horticulture, landscape, hardscape and water bodies development initiatives across multiple project sites in India. This senior leadership role demands deep expertise in both softscape and hardscape design, sustainable horticulture practices, and full lifecycle project management to ensure aesthetic excellence, ecological sustainability, and operational efficiency. The role also requires a forward-thinking approach to innovation, strong problem-solving capabilities, and effective reporting and coordination with planning and execution teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
- 20+ years of experience in landscape, horticulture, and hardscape management, with significant leadership exposure.
- Proven track record in large-scale project execution and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of plant biology, soil science, irrigation systems, paving materials, and sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Develop and implement long-term strategies for landscape, horticulture, and hardscape development aligned with organizational goals.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams including landscape architects, horticulturists, civil engineers, and contractors.
- Collaborate with design, engineering, and project management teams to integrate landscape and hardscape plans into overall project execution and upkeep.
Project Execution & Maintenance
- Oversee end-to-end execution of landscape and hardscape projects across TE project sites.
- Ensure timely delivery, quality control, and budget adherence.
- Establish and monitor maintenance protocols for both softscape and hardscape elements to ensure long-term durability and visual appeal.
- Ensure that all landscape areas are executed in line with the approved design intent and maintained thereafter in the same manner, preserving aesthetics and functionality.
- Identify and resolve issues related to site conditions, plant health, irrigation systems, material quality, and contractor performance during both execution and maintenance phases.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with design, environmental, and safety standards.
Design Review & Technical Validation
- Review landscape and hardscape designs for biological fit, ensuring compatibility with local climate, soil conditions, and plant species.
- Assess constructability of design elements, verifying feasibility of installation and integration with site infrastructure.
- Evaluate suitability for growth, ensuring long-term health, sustainability, and ease of maintenance for selected plant materials and landscape features.
- Provide feedback and recommendations to design teams to optimize functionality, aesthetics, and ecological performance
Vendor & Contractor Management
- Identify, evaluate, and manage landscape and hardscape contractors, nurseries, and service providers.
- Oversee delivery schedules, quality of materials, and execution timelines.
- Negotiate for job works and ensure alignment with project scope and standards.
- Ensure timely processing of payments based on verified deliverables and performance milestones.
- Review all bill certification works to validate scope, quality, and financial accuracy before submission.
- Maintain strong working relationships to ensure accountability and service excellence.
Finance & MIS Management
- Maintain strong control over financial planning, budgeting, and cost tracking for all landscape and horticulture works.
- Monitor and report MIS (Management Information System) for work progress, resource utilization, and performance metrics.
- Track and manage order placement status, ensuring timely procurement and delivery of materials and services.
- Coordinate with finance and procurement teams to ensure transparency and compliance with organizational policies.
- Submit daily site reports, and weekly, monthly, and quarterly updates to the planning function, covering execution status, financials, resource deployment, and key milestones.
- Prepare and present weekly progress presentations (PPTs) to senior management and planning teams.
Innovation & Sustainability
- Drive innovation in landscape and horticulture practices by introducing new materials, technologies, and design approaches.
- Pilot and implement smart solutions such as automated irrigation, sensor-based monitoring, and AI-driven maintenance scheduling.
- Champion green initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, permeable paving, and organic landscaping.
- Stay updated with global trends in landscape architecture, horticulture, and hardscape technologies to continuously improve project outcomes.
Training, Team Building & Development
- Design and implement training programs for horticulture and landscape teams to enhance technical skills and operational efficiency.
- Conduct workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions on best practices in plant care, irrigation, hardscape installation, and maintenance.
- Build and nurture a high-performing team, identifying talent, mentoring staff, and fostering a collaborative work culture.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development across all landscape and maintenance teams.
- Evaluate training outcomes and adapt programs to meet evolving project and environmental needs.
