Job Description: Plant Engineer

Position Overview:

The Plant Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and managing systems and equipment used for the transportation, storage, and processing of bulk materials (such as ores, coal, aggregates, and minerals).

Key Responsibilities:

Design and Development:

  • Develop and design bulk material handling systems, such as conveyors, feeders, hoppers, silos, stackers, reclaimers, and crushers.
  • Design mineral processing equipment layout, including crushers, screens, separators, mills, cyclones, and flotation units.
  • Ensure designs meet industry standards, project specifications, and safety requirements.

System Optimization:

  • Analyze existing systems to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and potential improvements.
  • Conduct reviews and implement upgrades or retrofits to enhance productivity and reliability.

Technical Documentation:

  • Develop project plans, budgets, and schedules while coordinating with clients, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare procurement documentation such as equipment specs, scope of work, data sheets, etc…
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, layouts, specifications, and reports.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including all departments especially structural and electrical departments
  • Liaise with clients to understand their requirements and provide tailored solutions.

Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure equipment and overall design comply with local, national, and international codes, regulations and standards.
  • Innovation and Technology:
  • Stay updated on advancements in material handling and mineral processing technologies.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in material handling or mineral processing are a plus.

Experience:

  • Proven experience of 2 to 5 Years in designing bulk material handling and mineral processing systems.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Smart Plant, AutoCAD, Inventor).
  • Familiarity with simulation software (e.g.FEA tools).
  • Strong knowledge of material handling principles, fluid dynamics, and process engineering.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project handling skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
