EDM Operator

Job Description Job Title: EDM Operator Department: Tool Room / Production / Machining   Reports To: Production / Tool Room Supervisor Job Summary: The EDM Operator will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Electrical Discharge Machines (Wire Cut / Die Sink EDM) to manufacture precision components used in medical devices and surgical instruments. The role demands high accuracy, technical expertise, and adherence to stringent quality and regulatory standards such as ISO 13485 . Requirements Key Responsibilities: Set up and operate Wire Cut and/or Die Sink EDM machines to produce precision parts as per engineering drawings and specifications. Read and interpret blueprints, CAD models, and GD&T symbols to determine machining requirements. Program and adjust EDM parameters (power settings, feed rate, offset, flushing, etc.) to achieve required accuracy and surface finish. Conduct in-process and final inspection using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges, profile projectors, CMM if applicable). Maintain tight tolerances (micron-level accuracy) and ensure superior surface finishes suited for medical components. Work with materials such as stainless steel (SS316L), titanium, and tool steels commonly used in medical devices. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ISO 13485 quality management systems. Record process data, maintain operation logs, and support traceability documentation. Perform routine maintenance, electrode dressing , and ensure proper machine calibration. Collaborate with Design, Tooling, and Quality teams for continuous improvement and problem-solving. Adhere to safety, cleanliness, and ESD/cleanroom standards as applicable. Benefits Qualifications & Skills: Education: ITI / Diploma in Tool & Die, Precision Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on experience operating EDM machines (Wire Cut / Die Sink) in medical devices, precision engineering, or mold/tool manufacturing industries. Sound knowledge of EDM programming software (Mitsubishi, Sodick, Makino, AgieCharmilles, etc.). Strong understanding of machining tolerances, spark gap, electrode wear compensation, and dielectric systems . Familiarity with ISO 13485 / ISO 9001 standards and documentation practices. Good knowledge of metrology and process validation requirements. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and teamwork skills. Requirements EDM Operator
