Role & responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative returnable packaging concepts.
  • Analyze and optimize existing packaging designs for efficiency and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with material suppliers to source cost-effective and eco-friendly materials.
  • Work closely with product designers to ensure packaging meets functional and aesthetic requirements.
  • Conduct testing and validation of new packaging designs to ensure durability and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain packaging documentation, including RPK checklists and SOPs (Sequence of Packing), and share them with the Operations Team.
  • Stay updated on the latest packaging trends, technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Define packaging and manufacturing specifications at the part number level for new product introductions.
  • Evaluate vendor prototypes, provide feedback, and suggest improvements or alternative solutions.
  • Validate packaging tests and inspection plans to ensure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and historical data.
  • Lead and coordinate design efforts between internal teams and external vendors to develop optimal packaging solutions.

  • Review and resolve packaging-related issues with suppliers, factories, service providers, and packaging vendors.

  • Conduct cost analysis of current packaging processes and recommend improvements.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities across the supply chain.

  • Prepare the Bill of Materials (BOM) with cost estimates and provide recommendations to customers or internal teams.

  • Advise senior management on packaging trends, solutions, and innovations.

  • Maintain accurate specifications for packaging materials and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or company management.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in packaging design, preferably in returnable packaging.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials, design principles, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks).
  • Experience with cost analysis, BOM preparation, and cost reduction strategies.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to packaging.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
