Summary:

This role involves the day-to-day management and optimization of the SolarWinds Orion platform. The manager will lead a team of SolarWinds administrators, overseeing task management, prioritization, and ticket queue oversight. Key responsibilities include performing platform upgrades, developing custom dashboards and monitors, tailoring alerts, and integrating Orion with tools like ServiceNow, Teams, and Exchange. The role also requires ensuring proper asset tagging, conducting regular training sessions, and creating technical documentation.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Day to day management of SolarWinds administrators including task setting, work prioritization, ticket queue management and documentation
  • Performing Orion platform upgrades
  • Optimizing and enhancing the existing Orion platform and making full use of the functionality can capability of the tool
  • Developing custom dashboards and monitors to provide rich and deep monitoring of infrastructure and core applications
  • Tailoring alerts to reduce noise and false positives.
  • Integrating Orion with other internal tools including ServiceNow, Teams and Exchange
  • Ensuring all assets are added and correctly tagged within Orion
  • Regular training and workshops for the IT and business teams
  • Creating technical documentation for SolarWinds configurations, processes, and best practices
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Skill requirements

  • Extensive experience in administering SolarWinds Orion including Network Performance Monitor, Server & Application Monitor, Database Performance Analyzer, Virtualization Manager, Storage Resource Monitor and Web Performance Monitor
  • Strong PowerShell, SQL scripting and SWQL experience.
  • SolarWinds NPM, SAM, and NCM.
  • Customize SolarWinds dashboards, alerts, and reports to meet specific monitoring requirements
  • Strong Windows and networking experience
  • Experience of writing technical documentation is essential
  • Good troubleshooting skills and an analytical mind is essential
  • High degree of flexibility including weekends and out-of-hours support
  • In-depth knowledge of SolarWinds platform, modules, and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, architecture, and security
  • Able to work with minimal supervision for daily tasks
  • Excellent written and oral English skills needed


Minimum Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of people management
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience administering SolarWinds
  • SolarWinds Certified Professional (SCP) or equivalent.
