We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) with secondary expertise in SQL Server (MSSQL) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing databases in AWS RDS/Aurora environments and a strong understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, performance optimization, and automation.


Key Responsibilities


PostgreSQL Administration :

  • Install, configure, and upgrade PostgreSQL databases to maintain optimal performance and reliability.
  • Implement robust backup and recovery strategies using tools like pg_dump, WAL archiving, and point-in-time recovery (PITR).
  • Design and manage schemas, tables, tablespaces, users, roles, and groups.
  • Architect and implement high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and load balancing solutions.
  • Optimize schema design and database normalization based on application needs.
  • Develop and manage database objects including indexes, views, stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
  • Perform query and database performance tuning using cost analysis and parameter optimization.
  • Plan and monitor hardware capacity for storage, memory, and CPU.
  • Execute database migrations, including heterogeneous migrations (e.g., SQL Server to PostgreSQL).
  • Collaborate with AWS teams for RDS, Aurora, DMS, Babelfish, and SCT integration.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot database issues, logs, and scheduled jobs.
  • Automate routine processes to improve efficiency and scalability.

SQL Server Administration :

  • Manage installation, configuration, and upgrades of MS SQL Server databases in production environments.
  • Monitor performance, availability, and security of SQL Server databases.
  • Develop, execute, and manage backup and recovery strategies for MSSQL.
  • Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks using SQL Profiler and resource monitoring.
  • Create and maintain scheduled jobs, data replication, and data refresh tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database integrity, blocking, and deadlocking issues.
  • Manage AWS-managed MSSQL RDS instances and ensure seamless cloud database operations.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in PostgreSQL database administration.
  • Solid experience with SQL Server (MSSQL) database management.
  • Expertise in AWS RDS/Aurora and familiarity with AWS database tools like DMS, Babelfish, and SCT.
  • Proficiency in query optimization, index management, and partitioning for both PostgreSQL and MSSQL.
  • Strong understanding of database design, normalization, and optimization principles.
  • Hands-on experience with backup and recovery strategies in PostgreSQL and MSSQL.
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Availability for 24×7 on-call production support.
