As a Principal Performance Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the scalability, reliability, and efficiency of our software products. Your primary responsibilities include:


  • Performance Testing and Optimization: Design, develop and execute performance tests to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement. Analyze test results and implement optimizations to enhance application performance.
  • System Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of system architecture and code to identify performance issues. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve these issues and improve overall system performance.
  • Monitoring and Metrics: Establish performance benchmarks and monitoring strategies. Use tools and metrics to track system performance, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Lead performance engineering initiatives, setting best practices and standards for the team.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development, operations, customer and product teams to ensure performance considerations are integrated throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Innovation: Stay up to date with the latest performance engineering techniques and technologies. Experiment with new tools and methodologies to keep our performance engineering practices at the cutting edge.


Experience: 15 years +


Technical Skills:


  • Performance Testing Tools: Familiarity with tools like JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, Apache Benchmark, etc.
  • Monitoring and Observability: Expertise in tools based on OTel such as HoneyComb and New Relic.
  • Profiling and Analysis: Knowledge of application profiling tools like YourKit, VisualVM, etc.
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with AWS and its performance-related services and tools.
  • Networking: Basic to intermediate understanding of network protocols, latency, bandwidth, etc.
  • Databases: Familiarity with database performance, indexing, and query optimization on the Postgres platform preferability using AWS Aurora Postgres RDS
  • Coding/Scripting: Working knowledge in Java, PostgreSQL, and scripting for automation.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Experience with tools like Terraform or CloudFormation for scalable infrastructure setup.


Soft Skills:


  • Communication: Ability to translate technical details into business context, and vice versa. This includes communicating findings, recommendations, and strategies to non-technical stakeholders within Vitech and to Vitech’s customers.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to dive deep into performance issues, diagnose root causes, and strategize solutions.
  • Project Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Agile: Use Agile methodology and approach, preferably SAFe.
  • Coordination: Coordinate performance engineering activities across multiple projects and implementations
  • People Oversight: be able to guide and manage day to day tasks for the performance engineering team.


Strategic and Analytical Skills:


  • Performance Strategy Development: Ability to design and implement a comprehensive performance engineering (including performance testing) strategy for the organization.
  • Shift left mentality and practice with a focus on addressing performance early in the SDLC to avoid issues in production.
  • Capacity Planning: Ability to forecast future growth and prepare the system for scale.
  • Risk Analysis: Ability to identify potential performance bottlenecks and prioritize them based on impact.
  • Budget Management: Understanding the cost implications of performance decisions especially in public cloud environments.
  • Measurement: Develop KPIs, track performance, optimize.
  • Report overall strategic development and status of the performance engineering program to senior management.
  • Understanding and experience injecting performance engineering into the CI/CD process.


Educational and Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, IT, or a related field
  • Multiple years of hands-on experience in performance engineering, with a track record of leading teams including building and running a performance engineering function in a SaaS company.
  • Industry-Specific Knowledge Domain-specific knowledge a plus
  • SAFe Agile Certification a plus


Continuous Learning


  • Up-to-date Knowledge: Staying updated with the latest trends, tools, and techniques in performance engineering.
  • Certifications - Certifications related to performance testing, cloud platforms, or related areas
