Job Description with Roles and Responsibilities
The Tool Moulding Manager is responsible for managing a team that designs, manufactures, and maintains injection moulding tools, ensuring they meet production requirements. This role involves overseeing the technical, operational, and administrative aspects of mould tool development, repair, and maintenance, optimizing processes to improve product quality and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Management & Development:
Lead and manage a team of toolmakers, engineers, and technicians.
Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to staff on moulding tool design and manufacturing processes.
Conduct performance reviews and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
2. Mould Tool Design and Development:
Supervise the design, testing, and refinement of moulding tools for various production lines.
Collaborate with product designers and engineers to ensure tooling meets product specifications.
Select appropriate materials and machining methods for the tools.
3. Tool Maintenance and Repair:
Ensure regular maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of existing moulding tools.
Troubleshoot and resolve any tool-related production issues, minimizing downtime.
Plan and schedule preventive maintenance to avoid production delays.
4. Process Optimization:
Analyze and optimize the efficiency of existing moulding processes.
Implement and oversee new techniques to improve quality, reduce cycle times, and lower costs.
Monitor production to identify areas for improvement in tool performance or manufacturing processes.
5. Project Management:
Oversee the planning, budgeting, and execution of tool development and maintenance projects.
Manage relationships with external suppliers or contractors for tooling, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
Coordinate the timely delivery of tools and molds for production.
6. Quality Assurance:
Ensure tooling processes comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
Monitor production for tool performance and quality consistency.
Implement corrective actions if moulding defects or tool failures occur.
7. Collaboration:
Work closely with production, engineering, and quality control teams to ensure smooth workflows.
Coordinate with senior management to align the tooling strategy with the company's objectives.
8. Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of tool designs, maintenance schedules, and production data.
Generate regular reports on tool performance, cost savings, and process improvements.
Desired Candidate Key Skills
Education: A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
10 years of experience in tool making, tool design, or a related manufacturing role.
Prior management or supervisory experience.
In-depth knowledge of moulding tools, machinery, and manufacturing processes.
