Role Overview:

We are looking for a Data Science Engineer with a solid understanding of data-driven systems and a passion for learning. You will be part our Underwriting Engine system, working alongside data scientists to validate and support rule-based underwriting logic. This role involves both pre- and post-launch testing, rule comprehension, and collaboration with IT and data science teams to ensure quality and transparency in decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Understand the new Underwriting Engine's architecture, goals, and decision logic.

Collaborate with data science teams to test models, business rules, and risk scoring logic.

Validate underwriting rules developed in R with supporting analysis using SQL and Python.

Perform functional, integration, and regression testing pre- and post-launch.

Ensure test coverage includes business rule accuracy, data integrity, and system behavior.

Work with product and engineering teams to document, explain, and validate underwriting decisions.

Support learning and documentation of evolving rulesets within our system.

Required Skills & Experience:

Strong working knowledge of SQL and Python for data validation and scripting.

Familiarity with R language.

Hands-on experience in software testing: creating test plans, test cases, and defect management.

Understanding of data science workflows, including statistical modeling and rule-based logic.

Clear communication skills to translate technical logic into understandable business terms.

Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.
