Job Description for BI Engineer
Role: BI Engineer
Years of Experience: 5+ Years
Role Description:
The BI Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Business Intelligence (BI) solutions using Power BI, SQL Server, and Azure. This includes creating data models, dashboards, and reports that provide actionable business insights. The role requires the ability to optimize DAX queries for performance, as well as work with ETL processes, data warehouses, and Azure services to ensure that data is accurate, secure, and scalable for enterprise reporting solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain interactive BI solutions with Power BI.
Build and optimize data models and create insightful dashboards and reports.
Write and optimize complex DAX formulas for calculations, measures, and aggregations.
Work with ETL processes and integrate data from multiple sources including SQL Server, Azure, and APIs.
Ensure the accuracy, security, and scalability of enterprise BI solutions.
Manage data governance, security, and access control, including implementing Row-Level Security (RLS).
Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver data-driven insights.
Required Skills:
Power BI Development: Must have strong expertise in creating interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations that provide business insights. Ability to develop dynamic and user-friendly BI solutions.
DAX (Data Analysis Expressions): Must be proficient in writing complex DAX formulas for calculations, measures, and aggregations. This includes optimizing DAX queries for performance in large datasets.
Power BI Service & Deployment: Knowledge of publishing Power BI reports, configuring workspaces, managing datasets, and setting up refresh schedules for reports and dashboards.
Data Modeling: Experience in designing star or snowflake schemas and optimizing relationships for efficient reporting and performance.
SQL & Data Extraction: Proficiency in writing SQL queries, using joins, and working with stored procedures to extract and manipulate data for Power BI integration.
ETL & Data Transformation: Experience with Power Query (M Language) and integrating data from various sources such as SQL Server, Azure, and APIs. Familiarity with ETL processes and data transformation for BI.
Data Governance & Security: Understanding of data governance best practices, including experience with Row-Level Security (RLS), data encryption, and ensuring proper access control for BI data.
Azure Integration: Basic understanding of integrating Power BI with Azure services like Azure Synapse, Data Factory, and Data Lake to enhance BI solutions.
CI/CD & Automation: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for Power BI deployments, version control (e.g., Git), and automating the deployment and update processes of BI solutions.
Cloud Data Services: Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, MS Fabric, or AWS, particularly for BI solutions and data storage.
Soft Skills:
Agile Mindset & Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional, agile teams, with a focus on iterative delivery and continuous improvement.
Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for interacting with business stakeholders, translating requirements into BI solutions, and presenting technical findings to non-technical users.
