ResponsibilitiesProduct Development and Sourcing: Identifying market trends, researching consumer preferences, and collaborating with design and development teams to create new hardgoods products for export. Sourcing suppliers, negotiating pricing and terms, and ensuring product quality and compliance.Supplier Management and Relationship Building: Establishing and maintaining relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors. Evaluating supplier performance, monitoring production timelines, and resolving any issues or delays to ensure on-time delivery.Cost and Inventory Management: Monitoring and controlling product costs, including raw materials, manufacturing, and transportation expenses. Managing inventory levels to optimize stock availability and minimize excess inventory or stockouts.Production Planning and Coordination: Planning and organizing production schedules to meet customer demands and export deadlines. Coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, and logistics providers to ensure smooth production and timely shipments.Quality Control and Assurance: Implementing quality control processes and standards to ensure that hardgoods products meet or exceed customer expectations and comply with international quality standards and regulations. Conducting inspections and audits to maintain product quality and reliability.Market and Competitor Analysis: Conducting market research and analysis to identify market trends, competitors, and customer preferences. Gathering market intelligence to inform product development, pricing strategies, and marketing initiatives.Export Documentation and Compliance: Managing export documentation, including customs declarations, certificates of origin, shipping documents, and compliance with international trade regulations. Ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements for export activities.Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborating with cross-functional teams such as sales, marketing, logistics, and finance to align merchandising activities with overall business goals. Sharing product information, providing support, and addressing any issues or concerns that may arise.Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Tracking and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) related to sales, profitability, production efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Providing regular reports and insights to management, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing corrective actions.Customer Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with international customers, understanding their needs and preferences, and providing excellent customer service. Managing customer inquiries, addressing concerns, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

QualificationsTo excel as a Merchandising Manager in the hardgoods export industry, the following qualifications and skills are typically sought after:Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business administration, supply chain management, international trade, or a related discipline is often preferred. Some employers may also consider candidates with equivalent work experience.Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the hardgoods industry, including knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, quality standards, and product trends. Familiarity with export regulations, customs procedures, and international trade practices is essential.Experience: Previous experience in merchandising or related roles within the hardgoods export industry is highly valued. This includes experience in product development, sourcing, supplier management, production planning, and export logistics. Demonstrated success in managing merchandising activities and delivering results is beneficial.Sourcing and Supplier Management: Strong skills in identifying and evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier relationships. Experience in assessing supplier capabilities, conducting factory audits, and ensuring compliance with quality standards and ethical sourcing practices.International Trade and Export Procedures: Proficiency in export documentation, customs procedures, and compliance requirements. Understanding of trade regulations, Incoterms, and import/export documentation such as commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.Project Management: Ability to plan, coordinate, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience in setting timelines, monitoring progress, and ensuring on-time delivery of products to meet export deadlines.Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess market trends, analyze sales data, and make data-driven decisions. Ability to interpret financial reports, track performance metrics, and identify areas for improvement.Communication and Negotiation: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate with internal teams, suppliers, and international customers. Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms and pricing with suppliers and to address customer concerns or issues.Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in product specifications, quality control processes, and export documentation. Ability to identify and rectify any discrepancies or quality issues in a timely manner.Leadership and Teamwork: Strong leadership skills to effectively lead cross-functional teams, motivate team members, and collaborate with colleagues at all levels. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and to adapt to changing priorities.
