Server Administrator

Experience Required: 4+ Years

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Server Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Windows Server administration (certified), working knowledge of Linux environments, and a foundational understanding of cloud platforms. This role demands expertise in server setup, maintenance, performance tuning, and system security, while also supporting scalability and disaster recovery for our universitys IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Server Administration:

• Install, configure, manage, and upgrade Windows and Linux servers.
• Manage Active Directory (AD), DHCP, DNS, Group Policies, and file/print services.
• Maintain virtual environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and assist in capacity planning.

2. Security and Compliance:

• Apply security patches and harden servers against vulnerabilities.
• Monitor for intrusions and perform regular audits to ensure compliance with internal IT policies and external regulations.

3. Monitoring and Performance:

• Continuously monitor server health, performance, and resource utilization.
• Respond to system alerts and proactively resolve bottlenecks and service disruptions.

4. Backup & Disaster Recovery:

• Manage and verify regular backups, recovery plans, and ensure minimal downtime in case of failure.
• Develop and test disaster recovery (DR) strategies and business continuity plans.

5. Cloud and Hybrid Environment Support:

• Basic understanding and administration of cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS).
• Support hybrid cloud infrastructure integration where applicable.

6. Technical Support & Coordination:

• Provide L3-level support and mentor L1/L2 engineers.
• Collaborate with IT vendors and stakeholders for hardware/software-related issues.
• Maintain clear communication and documentation of incidents and changes.

7. Inventory and Asset Management:

• Maintain accurate records of server, desktop, laptop, and printer assets.
• Ensure regular hardware audits and lifecycle management.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

• Server uptime and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
• SLA compliance and incident response time
• End-user satisfaction for support services
• Effective backup and disaster recovery implementation
• Accurate documentation and reporting (e.g., change management, RCA)
• Security compliance and vulnerability management
• Optimized utilization of infrastructure resources and cost control

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Diploma with equivalent experience may be considered.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in server administration in an enterprise environment.
• Windows Server certification (MCSA Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate - AZ-800/AZ-801) is required.
• Proficient in managing Windows Server 2016/2019/2022.
• Working knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL) server operations.
• Familiarity with cloud concepts and platforms such as Azure or AWS.
• Experience with storage technologies (NAS/SAN), virtualization platforms, and backup tools.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
