pdfscreening(AT)rri.res.in Bangalore, IndiaApplications are invited for postdoctoral positions at the RAMAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE (RRI), Bengaluru, India. The theoretical physics group at the RRI has members working actively in General Relativity, Quantum Fields in Curved Spacetime and Quantum Gravity. The faculty members in this area are Kartik Prabhu, Sumati Surya and Madhavan Varadarajan. We strongly encourage young independent researchers to apply with a background in either of these areas. The position is a total of 3 years (1+1+1), with a yearly evaluation for renewal. Selected Post-Doctoral Fellows will be paid a Fellowship of INR 58,000 to INR 67,000 + appropriate house rent allowance, as admissible, depending on their experience. In the case of successful candidates who are yet to complete requirements for award of the Ph.D. qualification – like, for example, successful defence of the thesis – a research fellowship at a lower rate of INR 48,000 + appropriate house rent allowance as admissible will be paid until completion of such requirements. The maximum duration of the postdoctoral position is 3 years, with annual extensions based on internal assessments. Post-doctoral Fellows are expected to be able to work independently at the Raman research Institute and have the academic freedom of choice in research area and collaboration: it is not mandatory that they work in any specific research program or attached to specific research staff of the Institute. Nevertheless, it is desirable that applicants have professional research interest and proven track record in areas with significant overlap or association with the ongoing and envisaged activities at the Institute so that scientific interactions and collaborations take place. The appointments do not entail any teaching responsibilities. There is no official deadline for these positions, but the applicants should allow additional delays if a work-visa is required. We prefer to receive applications and supporting letters in soft copy.
