Alt Carbon was started by sibling tea planters Shrey and Sparsh Agarwal, in order to rescue their family’s tea estate from being at-risk of climate impact to becoming the frontier of climate action


Role Overview: We are seeking a skilled and proactive Lab Manager to lead the efficient functioning of our state-of-the-art laboratories. You will ensure timely and accurate sample preparation and analysis in compliance with registry guidelines. Using cutting-edge equipment like ICP-OES, ICP-MS, IR-MS, and HR-MS, you will maintain operational excellence and drive impactful climate action research.

You will also oversee day-to-day laboratory activities, including inventory management, equipment maintenance, and safety protocol adherence. You will collaborate closely with field teams, train and onboard new lab members, and act as the primary liaison with external vendors. With a blend of technical expertise and leadership capabilities, you will support research associates in their scientific endeavors, contributing to Alt Carbon’s groundbreaking efforts to combat climate change through enhanced weathering.


Problem Statements:

In a fast-paced, mission-driven startup like Alt Carbon, efficient laboratory operations are critical to advancing our MRV (Measurement, Reporting and Verification) and climate action initiatives. As we scale, our state-of-the-art Darjeeling Climate Action Lab (D-CAL) requires meticulous oversight to ensure high-quality sample analysis, adherence to registry guidelines, and the seamless functioning of cutting-edge equipment. This role is designed to address the challenges of managing complex workflows, meeting strict timelines, and supporting groundbreaking research that drives innovation in carbon removal solutions.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the lab.
  • Analyse samples on ICP-OES and HR-ICMS.
  • Maintain a record of inventory and order supplies such as lab consumables and other necessary materials for the lab works.
  • Ensure all lab equipment is functioning properly and coordinate repairs as necessary.
  • Supervise the preparation and processing of samples, ensuring adherence to international standards.
  • Assist with the onboarding and training of new lab members.
  • Maintain lab guidelines, SOPs and safety protocols in compliance with all regulations.
  • Coordinate with field teams to facilitate sample processing and data recording.
  • Liaise with external vendors and technical support for equipment maintenance.
  • Report regularly to senior management regarding lab status and needs.
