1. POSITION VACANT: Chief Executive, Alliance India, New Delhi
2. ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND :
Founded in 1999, Alliance India is a diverse partnership that brings together committed organisations and communities to support sustained responses to HIV in India. Complementing the Indian national programme, the organisation works through capacity building, knowledge sharing, technical support and advocacy.
Alliance India manages an annual grant portfolio of USD 10.31 Million (2023-24) and works with nearly 300 community-based organisations and key population partners across India and also in the South East Asia region. Apart from serving as a key partner to the government, Alliance India is respected for its effective and extensive engagement with communities affected by the epidemic.
The organisation works with its partners to support efforts that have a sustainable impact on HIV. Placing communities at the center, it ensures that vulnerable and marginalised people including sex workers, men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs, transgender individuals, and people living with HIV are meaningfully involved in all aspects of its work. Alliance India ’s programming and policy efforts are evidential and quality and accountability are core priorities.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Board of Directors , the Chief Executive (CE) will lead the delivery of Alliance India’ s strategy by guiding, inspiring, retaining and building a strong management team and staff to the highest levels of expectation and performance.
The CE shall be responsible for developing, leading, and executing the organizational strategy while ensuring sustained and consistent growth of Alliance India ’s funding base. The successful candidate will have strong community experience and connect strongly with the cause of HIV/AIDS.
S/he shall be responsible for building and maintaining the program portfolio, overseeing quality execution, and ensuring diverse and sustainable income from a range of institutional, corporate, and individual donors. The CE will have entrepreneurial skills and proven track record for identifying, engaging and developing new revenue streams and leading business development through engagement with entities in the public, private and non-profit sectors.
As head of Alliance India , the CE shall play an active role in overall management of the organization, providing vision, reinforcing values, and contributing to a culture of transparency, innovation, and excellence in all areas of work. The incumbent will ensure the active participation of key populations in decision-making and maintain strong community engagements.
Key Job Responsibilities:
A. Strategic Leadership and Vision (10%):
(1) Vision and Strategy Development: Under the guidance of the Board, lead Alliance India ’s long-term strategy, integrating a robust vision that aligns with emerging trends in the HIV/AIDS landscape and safeguard Alliance India ’s national, regional, and global leadership position.
(2) Programmatic Leadership: Oversee the design and scale of impactful, evidence-based initiatives addressing HIV/AIDS and sexual health. Foster innovation, best practices and tailor approaches to the specific needs of target communities.
(3) Change Management: Inspire an organizational culture that is adaptive to change and geared towards high performance.
B. Operational Management and Efficiency (25%) :
(1) Operational Oversight: Lead efficient management of Alliance India ’s functions, including finance, administration, HR, policy, and program management. Ensure smooth organizational operations aligned with Alliance India ’s strategic objectives. Undertake extensive field visits to oversee the effectiveness of project implementation and connection with the communities.
(2) Risk Management: Oversee adherence to budget and control systems, reviewing operational processes for continuous improvement.
(3) Efficiency and Cost Control: Maintain and improve operational efficiency, guiding effective cost management and control measures.
C. Fundraising, Resource Mobilization and Sustainability (20%) :
(1) Financial Sustainability: Spearhead a comprehensive fundraising and resource mobilization strategy that aligns with Alliance India ’s mission and growth objectives. Identify and pursue new funding partnerships to ensure financial resilience and program expansion.
(2) Resource Management: Develop and implement financial strategies that prioritize program impact and operational efficiency.
(3) Innovation in Fundraising: Foster entrepreneurial approaches and collaborate with senior leadership to develop funding strategies supporting Alliance India’s mission and growth.
D. Team Leadership and People Management (20%) :
(1) Leadership Development: Build a high-performing executive team. Provide mentorship and foster professional growth among staff.
(2) Culture and Values Alignment: Cultivate an inclusive, mission-driven culture aligned with Alliance India’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Promote collaboration with high morale and mutual trust.
(3) Performance Management: Ensure robust performance evaluation processes and create a work culture that values accountability, high standards, and ongoing development.
E. Board Management, Governance, and Compliance (10%) :
(1) Board Relations and Reporting: Maintain a productive relationship with Alliance India’s Board of Directors, preparing timely, accurate and comprehensive updates on operational, financial, and strategic progress.
(2) Governance and Accountability: Work with the Board to uphold governance standards, aligning with the organization’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. Participate in Board meetings and contribute to decision-making processes.
(3) Policy and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all governance standards and regulatory obligations. Improve governance processes as needed, in collaboration with the Board.
F. Stakeholder Management, Advocacy, and External Relations (15%) :
(1) Stakeholder Engagement: Build and sustain relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector entities, NGOs, donors, and community partners. Represent Alliance India as a spokesperson and ambassador, enhancing visibility and brand reputation.
(2) Advocacy and Representation: Take a leadership role in public forums, shaping Alliance India’ s influence on policy and advocacy discussions relevant to HIV/AIDS and public health. Collaborate with partners to support shared goals, in alignment with global initiatives.
(3) External Partnerships: Strengthen Alliance India’ s network by maintaining partnerships with global entities including bilateral and multi-lateral organisations, domestic/ international donor agencies and other stakeholders.
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualifications:
High level of academic achievement with at least a master’s degree in public health, management or social sciences (or equivalent).
Experience:
(1) 15 years of progressive experience in leadership roles within the nonprofit sector, public health organisations, or social development agencies.
(2) Five years of CXO level experience, with a demonstrable track record of organizational growth and impact.
(3) Fundraising & Resource Mobilisation: Proven success in developing and implementing diverse fundraising strategies encompassing institutional donors, corporate partners, and individual philanthropists.
(4) People Management & Organisational Development: Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams is preferred.
(5) Governance & Compliance: Familiarity with nonprofit governance structures and working directly with the Board. Knowledge of regulatory compliance within the nonprofit sector, particularly financial and legal regulations and processes. Strong commitment to ethical governance.
(6) Advocacy: Experience in advocating for policy changes, and influence stakeholders and policymakers, to enhance the visibility of the issues and the organisation. Experience with government and international organisations and familiarity with their processes is preferred.

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:
Gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive and aligned with salaries paid by leading I/NGOs for leadership roles. Offers shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.
