Tata Electronics (a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd.) is building India’s first AI-enabled state-of-the-art Semiconductor Foundry. This facility will produce chips for applications such as power management IC, display drivers, microcontrollers (MCU) and high-performance computing logic, addressing the growing demand in markets such as automotive, computing and data storage, wireless communications and artificial intelligence.

Job Summary :
The Utility Piping Specialist is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and optimizing utility piping systems within an Semiconductor Assembly and Test facility. These systems include process gases, water, HVAC, chemical delivery, fire fighting and other critical utilities that support semiconductor assembly and testing operations. The role requires a strong mechanical engineering background, along with knowledge of the specific requirements of semiconductor facilities, including contamination control, cleanroom standards, and reliability.
The specialist will work closely with facility engineers, contractors, and maintenance teams to ensure that utility piping systems are designed and operated efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Design & Installation of Utility Piping Systems:
Design and oversee the installation of utility piping systems, including but not limited to chilled water, process cooling water, deionized water, compressed air, process gases (N2, O2, Ar, etc.), and chemical distribution systems.
Ensure that piping layouts meet the requirements for semiconductor cleanroom environments, contamination control, and process specifications.
Work with contractors, suppliers, and engineering teams to ensure proper material selection (stainless steel, Teflon, etc.), fabrication, and installation of piping systems.
2. System Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on utility piping systems to ensure continuous and reliable operation.
Troubleshoot and resolve piping-related issues, such as leaks, pressure drops, or contamination risks, to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
Develop preventive maintenance programs to extend the life of piping systems and reduce the risk of unexpected failures.
3. Optimization of Piping Systems:
Analyze utility consumption data and identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and lower operating costs.
Implement process improvements and system modifications to optimize piping layouts and performance, especially in relation to fluid dynamics and heat transfer in HVAC and cooling systems.
Ensure that utility systems are scalable to support future expansions of OSAT production capacity.
4. Safety & Compliance:
Ensure that all piping systems meet industry safety standards, such as ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) codes, and comply with local and international regulations related to high-purity gases, chemicals, and water distribution.
Monitor piping systems for safety risks, such as pressure imbalances, corrosion, or hazardous gas leaks, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Maintain detailed documentation and records for inspections, repairs, and modifications to ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements.
5. Collaboration & Project Management:
Collaborate with project teams, including facilities, production, and maintenance staff, to design and implement piping systems that meet the needs of the OSAT facility.
Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and engineering firms for the procurement, installation, and commissioning of piping infrastructure.
Oversee project timelines, budgets, and quality control to ensure successful completion of piping projects on time and within budget.
6. Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to utility piping systems in semiconductor manufacturing.
Lead efforts to implement new materials, construction methods, or piping technologies that enhance system performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Promote sustainability initiatives by optimizing water and energy use in piping systems and exploring opportunities for resource recycling and reuse.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; advanced certification in piping design or mechanical systems is preferred.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in utility piping systems, with a focus in the semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing industry, ideally in OSAT.
Proficiency in piping design, including the use of tools like AutoCAD, Revit, or other CAD software for piping layouts and system designs.
Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and mechanical systems, especially related to high-purity piping, gases, and chemicals in semiconductor environments.
Experience with ASME codes, ANSI standards, and relevant safety regulations.
Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in utility piping systems.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working in cleanroom environments and familiarity with contamination control and HVAC systems in semiconductor facilities.
Knowledge of high-purity gas and chemical handling in semiconductor processes.
Strong project management skills, including experience managing large-scale piping projects in industrial or manufacturing settings.
Understanding of sustainability initiatives in utility systems, such as energy-efficient piping designs, water recycling, or heat recovery systems.
