Job Title

Apigee Platform Engineer (L1/L2) with Microservices L1 Cloud/SRE Track

Role Summary

Own day-to-day runtime stability and deployments for APIs on Apigee (Hybrid/X) and support microservices (L1) on Kubernetes. Work across incident response, routine ops, deployments, and platform hygiene with strong customer handling and SLA discipline.

Experience & Level Bands

• Apigee L2: 37+ years total, 2 years Apigee (Hybrid/X/Edge), strong debugging & automation
• Microservices L1: 1–3 years exposure (deployment/support) on Kubernetes (Spring Boot preferred)

Must-Have Skills (unchanged + expanded)

• Experience in cloud administration & troubleshooting (GCP recommended, or AWS/Azure)
• Kubernetes (GKE/EKS/AKS) fundamentals: pods, deployments, services, HPA, readiness/liveness, ConfigMaps/Secrets
• APIGEE / API Management is Mandatory (Hybrid or X preferred)
• CI/CD: Jenkins or GitLab; Git basics (branching, PRs), artifact repos (Nexus/Artifactory)
• Observability: Dynatrace, Prometheus, ELK/EFK (create/manage alerts, log queries)
• Linux basics, system & application logging
• Strong analytical/troubleshooting mindset; ownership and urgency
• Communication: clear written & verbal English; stakeholder updates, incident notes
• SLA-driven operations; Jira familiarity a plus
• Cloud certifications (AWS/GCP) highly desirable
• Understanding of end-to-end infra/app components and service health
• Eagerness to learn; collaborative team player

Responsibilities

Apigee L1 (Operations & Support)

• First-line triage for API/runtime issues (4xx/5xx patterns, latency spikes, timeouts)
• Basic config ops: KVM entries, TargetServers, keystores/truststores, shared flows usage
• Routine deployments (proxies/shared flows) via approved CI/CD pipelines
• Platform checks: gateway health, router/message-processor status, CPU/memory, cert validity
• Log/metric review (Dynatrace/Kibana/Apigee Analytics) and alert response
• Execute standard runbooks; escalate to L2 with clear findings and timelines
• Service requests (access, tokens, cache clear, quota resets) within SLA
• Incident communications: acknowledge, update, close with summaries

Apigee L2 (Advanced Debugging & Platform Hygiene)

• Deep-dive troubleshooting across request path: client Apigee microservice backend
• Analyze policies & flows (OAuth/JWT, SpikeArrest, Quota, Verify/Generate JWT, CORS, MessageLogging)
• Optimize proxy design (flow variables, error handling, caching) and enforce conventions
• TLS/mutual-TLS setup & rotation; cert lifecycle automation
• Environment & org-level governance: naming, bundles, shared flow reuse, linting
• CI/CD improvements (quality gates, policy linting, automated tests, rollback strategy)
• Capacity/perf tuning; load testing support; trend reporting from Apigee Analytics
• Lead major incident bridge; create RCAs with corrective/preventive actions
• Mentor L1; author/runbooks; drive toil reduction via scripts/automation

Microservices L1 (Deployment & Runtime Support)

• Deploy/rollback containerized services (Helm/kubectl); verify pods, endpoints, service discovery
• Read application logs (structured), basic JVM health checks, thread/heap snapshots (guided)
• Config management (ConfigMaps/Secrets), environment variables, feature toggles
• Health checks & probes; restart strategies; canary/blue-green basics
• Smoke tests with Postman/cURL; payload/headers tracing; correlation IDs
• Basic Kafka exposure (topics, consumer lag view) — nice to have
• Coordinate with devs for fixes; file crisp defect reports with evidence (logs, traces)

Common/SRE Duties

• 247 incident handling (rotational), on-call, change windows, DR/SOX/RBI-style controls
• Maintain dashboards & alerts (Dynatrace/Prometheus/Kibana); reduce false positives
• Keep CMDB/service registry current; tag assets; maintain operational runbooks
• Participate in DR drills, patching, certificate rotations, and compliance checks

Nice-to-Have

• Apigee Hybrid on Anthos/GKE exposure; Apigee X migration experience
• Ingress controllers (Istio/Nginx), service mesh basics, VPC/LB/DNS/TLS on GCP
• Scripting (Bash/Python/Groovy); policy/unit test frameworks for Apigee
• SonarQube/quality gates; SAST/DAST integration

Work Model

• Shifts: Rotational including weekends/holidays for on-call
