Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day activities regarding the upkeep and availability of all database servers in the environment including lower environments.
  • Serve as SME (subject matter expert) primarily for MariaDB.
  • Have expertise of following database technologies being used for specific solutions - PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis.
  • Engineer and maintain database solutions specific to a shared cloud operations environment.
  • Responsible for database backup and restore functions including scheduled tests of DR availability, including knowledge of restoration and availability technologies such as Clustering, Replication and especially Always-On.
  • Monitor Performance and Tuning.
  • Participates in SQL code-reviews for the application teams to enforce SQL coding standards.
  • Builds and reports on SQL environment performance and availability metrics and takes appropriate actions to implement best practices and optimize performance.
  • Assist in the technical analysis and design for current and future projects.


Requirements:

  • Strong and demonstrable experience as DBA in large-scale Database environments.
  • Documented hands-on expertise managing high-volume instances of MariaDB/Postgres/MongoDB setups featuring high availability.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to get to the root cause of an issue quickly.
  • Develop and establish policies and procedures related to data security and integrity; monitor and limit database access as needed.
  • Ensure all database servers are managed to Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
  • Experience with database storage engines and master-slave replication principles and practices.
  • Document the company’s database environment.
  • Experience in writing automation scripts, building application dashboards for proactive monitoring using Ruby, PowerShell, Python scripting or similar technologies, ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks
  • Experience as Linux systems administrator (e.g. CentOS, RedHat) and command line system administration such as Bash, VIM, SSH.
  • Experience with CI/CD in cloud environments.
  • Create knowledge base articles that can be used by tier one and tier two support engineers in response to routine incidents around the shared database environment.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating among individuals and groups in a complex, time-sensitive environment.

Good communication and coordination skills and able to work efficiently under pressure.
