Key duties & responsibilities:

Network Design and Planning:

Interface with stakeholders to understand network requirements and design scalable and efficient network architecture.

Design Network firewall rules globally

Select appropriate network equipment, technologies, and protocols.

Develop network diagram and documentation. 

Network implementation:

Configure and install network hardware and software components, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.

Set up and maintain virtual private networks (VPNs) and network security protocols.

Ensure proper network cabling and infrastructure.

Network Monitoring and Maintenance:

Monitor network performance and identify issues proactively.

Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as firmware updates and backups.

Troubleshoot network problems and outages.

Security and compliance:

Implement and enforce network security policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments.

Network Optimization:

Optimize network performance by fine-tuning configurations and implementing QoS (Quality of Service) policies.

Implement load balancing and redundancy to ensure high availability.

Network Documentation:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including configurations and diagrams.

Create and maintain an inventory of network assets.

Collaboration and support:

Collaborate with other IT teams, such as system administrators and cybersecurity specialists.

Provide technical support and assistance to end-users and other IT staff.

Capacity Planning:

Monitor network traffic and plan for capacity upgrades as needed.

Forecast future network requirements based on business growth.

Emergency Response:

Be on-call to respond to network emergencies and incidents, even outside of regular working hours.

Competency

Description

Academic

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

Qualification

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Industry certifications like Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or Juniper JNCIA can be beneficial. Strong knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, VLANs, OSPF, BGP, DNS, DHCP, etc. Experience with public cloud networking, Azure and AWS. Proficiency in network security principles and best practices. Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., Wireshark, Nagios, SNMP). Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to adapt to new technologies and stay updated on industry trends.
