We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Data Governance Specialist with expertise in Microsoft Azure and data governance frameworks. This role requires a strong technical background to design, implement, and maintain governance controls across enterprise data platforms. The candidate will work closely with data engineering, security, and compliance teams to ensure data assets are properly cataloged, classified, secured, and monitored in alignment with organizational and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Governance Implementation

  • Establish and maintain data cataloging and classification standards using Azure-native tools.

  • Define and enforce data policies, access controls, and retention strategies across Azure resources.

  • Collaborate with business and compliance teams to align governance with enterprise standards.

  • Azure Platform Governance

  • Configure and manage Azure policies, subscription guardrails, and location restrictions.

  • Implement governance for Azure Databricks clusters including monitoring, cost control, and optimization.

  • Ensure RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) and KeyVault secrets management are consistently applied.

  • Monitoring & Compliance

  • Develop and maintain governance dashboards using Azure Log Analytics and monitoring tools.

  • Track and report on data usage, security compliance, and policy violations.

  • Partner with security and cloud teams to mitigate risks and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Optimization & Cost Governance

  • Implement budget monitoring and cost optimization controls for data services.

  • Provide technical guidance to improve efficiency of clusters, pipelines, and data platforms.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data services (Data Catalog, Purview, Synapse, Databricks).

  • Proficiency in Azure Policies, RBAC, KeyVault, and subscription governance.
  • Knowledge of data classification, data lineage, and metadata management.

  • Familiarity with Log Analytics, monitoring, and auditing frameworks.

  • Governance & Security Knowledge:

  • Experience in data governance frameworks (DAMAD-DMBOK, DCAM, or equivalent).

  • Understanding of cloud security, compliance (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.), and regulatory frameworks.

  • Additional Competencies:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with business and technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Experience

  • 58 years of experience in data governance, cloud data management, or Azure data platforms.
  • Prior experience in large-scale cloud adoption and governance projects.

Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer / Azure Security Engineer / Azure Solutions Architect are a plus.
