TITLE: Application Engineer

FUNCTION/BUSINESS UNIT/ENTERPRISE: Product Engineering

REPORTING TO: Product Engineering Team Leader

 SCOPE AND IMPACT OF POSITION ON THE ORGANIZATION:

Drive all necessary actions to assure that ZF devices and systems are selected and configured according to customer requirements and applied appropriately in customer vehicles.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Requirements elicitation and specification mapping Collect technical customer requirements, specifications and associated documents. Compare customer requirements and specifications with ZF specifications, identify mapping specifications and deviations. Provide proposal for ZF product matching customer requirements, resolve deviations in consultation with product group engineer and customer, accomplish acceptance of deviations. Create change request for non-acceptable deviations including breakdown of customer requirements. Product layout and configuration Select / design / calculate product layout for customer application. Consolidate / prepare product documentation (Drawings, schematics, plumbing/wiring diagrams, DMU’s, specifications, bill of material etc.) Configure product according to customer needs (e.g., parameter setting) Application validation and release Check component installation and system environment in the vehicle. Startup system in the vehicle, run through initialization procedure. Check system functions in the vehicle. Adapt parameter setting where required. Homologate or support customer to homologate according to national and international regulations as appropriate. Carry out tests on special customer demand (e.g., system performance demonstration) Provide test report. Train and instruct customer on product features, end-of-line process and requirements etc. Get technical approval of application from the customer. Provide technical release of application.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 5 to 8 years of experience in Product Engineering in the automotive industry, preferably in vehicle function development or vehicle testing

PROFILE:

Degree in EEE / ECE / Mechatronic / Automobile Engineering Good knowledge about vehicles, sub-systems and operating environment Good experience in vehicle homologation / testing Good knowledge in diagnostics (K line & UDS on CAN), CAN protocol, instrumentation and data acquisition systems Capable of test driving (CV driver’s license, qualified test driver) Fluent in English Ability to work with Digital Mockups - Interface checking and fouling checking.

OUTPUT:

Specified standard application and homologation procedures. Customer application release (e.g., for new customer or new product at existing customer) Homologation test report Customer training on product features, application, end-of-line handling etc. Response to technical questions of customers Support of other ZF functions (e.g., Key Account Teams) for technical explanations and demonstrations to customers Feedback of technical customer requirements into product development organization

METRICS:

Application checklist completed. Customer sign-off received. Homologation test passed. Customer able to equip his vehicles with ZF product in his production line.
