Job Description About the Role Lab/Group:  AIREX Lab Institute:  Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore  Position Type:  Full-time (R&D / Academic Research)  Level: Senior Postdoc / Research Scientist / Visiting Scientist  Experience:  PhD + Demonstrated Research Leadership The AIREX Lab at IISc Bangalore  is seeking a visionary and technically rigorous Research Lead  to spearhead projects at the intersection of Computational Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence. This position is open to high-potential Postdoctoral fellows, as well as experienced researchers and academicians seeking a dedicated R&D role. The selected candidate will not only contribute code and theory but will also lead a research group, defining technical roadmaps for solving complex PDEs using Scientific Machine Learning (SciML). Core Responsibilities 1.  Research Leadership & Strategy Group Leadership:  Lead a team of Interns, Research Associates, MTech and PhD students, providing technical mentorship and code reviews. Grant & Publication Strategy:  Lead the writing of high-impact journal papers and assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in drafting grant proposals and technical reports. 2  . Technical Innovation (SciML & Computational Math) Hybrid Solver Design:  Architect algorithms that embed physics constraints (conservation laws, symmetries) into neural networks (e.g., PINNs, DeepONet, Fourier Neural Operators). Numerical Implementation:  Develop high-fidelity solvers using Finite Element Methods (FEM)  or Finite Volume Methods (FVM)  as ground truth generators or differentiable layers. HPC Optimization:  Orchestrate large-scale training and simulation runs on supercomputing clusters using parallel computing paradigms (MPI, OpenMP, Multi-GPU ). 3  . Collaboration & Dissemination Bridge the gap between pure mathematics and engineering applications within the AIREX Lab. Present findings at top-tier conferences. Requirements Qualifications 1. Education & Experience Ph.D.  in Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science. Essential Technical Skills Numerical Analysis:  Deep understanding of discretization schemes (FEM/FVM), stability analysis, and error estimation. Scientific ML:  Proven expertise in Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) or Neural Operators. High-Performance Computing:  Proficiency in parallelizing scientific codes using MPI  or CUDA . Programming:  Mastery of Python  (for ML) and C++ or Fortran  (for core numerics). 3. Leadership Capabilities (Critical) Demonstrated ability to manage research projects from conception to publication. Experience mentoring graduate students or junior engineers. Strong communication skills to articulate complex mathematical concepts to cross-disciplinary teams.
