We are looking for a passionate, detail-oriented Data Analyst who is skilled at transforming complex data into actionable insights. The ideal candidate will be able to independently break down large datasets into manageable pieces, identify trends, detect patterns, and effectively communicate findings. This role requires a strong technical understanding, practical experience in data processing, and a problem-solving mindset for identifying missing or incomplete data fields and resolving data integrity issues. You should be able to handle large amounts of data from diverse sources, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and usability.


Additionally, the candidate should have the ability to quickly understand the intricacies of the shipping business and its key data drivers. Whether through prior shipping industry experience or a strong aptitude for learning new business domains independently, you will be expected to adapt quickly to the business and contribute effectively to data-driven decision-making.

 

Responsibilities:


Data Extraction & Integration

  • Fetch data from various sources (e.g., databases, APIs, spreadsheets, cloud platforms) and integrate it into a single dataset for analysis.
  • Transform and load data into SQL database.

Data Cleaning & Transformation

  • Identify and handle missing, inconsistent, and duplicate data.
  • Normalize datasets to ensure consistency across different data sources.
  • Develop data cleansing procedures and automate where possible.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries for data retrieval, manipulation, and stored procedures.
  • Maintain and enhance the SQL database schema as needed.

Data Analysis

  • Break down complex problems into smaller, actionable tasks and analyze datasets for trends, patterns, and anomalies.

Data Visualization & Reporting

  • Create clear visualizations and dashboards to showcase insights, trends, and data-driven recommendations.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with other teams (e.g., engineering, product, marketing) to understand data requirements and help deliver data solutions that meet business objectives.

Documentation & Technical Reporting:

  • Document data pipelines, analytical processes, and findings to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
  • Manage back-office tasks related to the document management system.

Identify Data Gaps

  • Detect missing data fields, suggest improvements for data collection, and support efforts to fill in the gaps.

Technical Support

  • Provide guidance on how to leverage data for business needs and optimize data processes.

Power BI Development:

  • Create and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards.
  • Handle data transformations and modeling using Power Query and DAX.
  • Ensure the front-end of Power BI is user-friendly and provides actionable insights.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.


Experience & Knowledge:

  • Proven experience (Minimum 3 years) as a Data Engineer or Data Analyst in a similar role.
  • Proficient in SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) for database querying and manipulation.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.), with a focus on creating user-friendly, actionable dashboards.
  • Strong data cleaning and processing skills (Python, R, Excel).
  • Experience with data transformation libraries (Pandas, Numpy).
  • Familiarity with APIs, flat files, and connecting data from multiple sources.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) for data storage and processing.
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and automation tools.
  • Experience with large-scale data systems and data pipelines.
  • Experience with Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
  • Knowledge of Power Query and DAX for data manipulation and modeling.
  • A strong understanding of maritime industry data and processes is highly advantageous
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience presenting data insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Expertise in designing intuitive and user-friendly visualizations that provide actionable insights.
