Role & responsibilities

Performance testers are responsible for automating performance tests that validate performance across the entire application stack, including code, database, network, and virtualization. Performance testers also create dynamic tests to monitor system memory, functional behavior, response time, and overall system performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Automating performance tests as part of the deployment pipeline.
  • Developing dynamic tests for system memory, functional behavior, response time, and overall performance.
  • Running automated tests before any manual tests.
  • Ensuring automated test cases do not generate false positives.

Performance testers also focus on stress testing to check the accessibility and robustness of software beyond usual functional limits. They are involved in integration testing to ensure combined software components work as expected and verify interactions and data exchange between different components or modules.

Tasks include:

  • Creating performance test plans.
  • Deploying applications and load testing tools on test environments.
  • Creating test scripts and executing tests as per plan.
  • Tuning platforms for better performance.

Performance testers are expected to automate load and performance testing on staging environments using tools like JMeter and Load Runner, integrate these tests into continuous delivery pipelines, and generate comprehensive test reports. They also create defects/action plans to resolve performance bottlenecks such as slow database queries, inefficient code, or resource limitations.
