The Purchasing Strategy & Digitalization (PS&D) function within Volvo Group Purchasing (GTP) is a Centre of Excellence. We are responsible for driving and facilitating the strategic direction of purchasing on behalf of Executive Management Team.

PS&D are, together with relevant line functions, driving efficiency within digitalization, governance, harmonization, group synergies, continuous improvements, and digital & IT projects to enable business value. We work proactively with change management and transformation in collaboration with GTP line functions.

Head of Purchasing Strategy & Digitalization is also hosting Volvo Group Purchasing India organization on behalf of CPO of Volvo Group & Head of GTP.

Roles & Responsibilities: To lead and coordinate all sourcing activities, making sure that Penta purchasing leverages their purchasing power in order to maximise global synergies whilst executing professional sourcing of production material for Volvo Penta Manufacturing and Aftermarket Units in compliance with technical specifications and project requirements.

The Buyer is responsible for purchasing within an assigned commodity, to drive strategy development and implementation in order to secure quality, delivery, cost, feature, technology, sustainability and risk management requirements (QDCF-TSR). 

In addition to the operational purchasing activities for assigned suppliers, the Buyer is responsible for ensuring that all sourcing activities follows the sourcing process and are performed globally and has full responsibility for QDCF-TSR target deliverables at consolidated commodity level. 

The Buyer is responsible for all purchasing agreements which have a global impact. 

In addition to the main responsibilities for Buyer, the buyer with strategic lead has the following responsibilities:

To ensure development and implementation of the commodity strategy. 

Work closely with Segment manager to support the segment strategy. 

To coordinate activities with Buyers having Lead responsibility within Penta purchasing organization and other Volvo business areas. 

Ensure cross-functional co-operation within Volvo Penta organization. 

Lead, negotiate and execute all sourcing activities in every phase of the product life cycle. 

Negotiate optimized part-, tool-, development-, prototype cost, payment terms and productivity commitments with the suppliers in the sourcing phase. 

Manage all project related supplier relations (meetings, documents, feed-back). 

To lead the commercial interface & working relationship with suppliers. 

Manage the overall supplier relationship 

Negotiate; ensure signature and storage of all relevant agreements (incl. raw material agreement) in all phases of the product life cycle, including business extension. 

Follow-up contracts and agreements with suppliers and ensure implementation. 

Manage risk mitigation and crisis activities. 

Coordinate RFQ´s and sourcing cases . 

Drive supply chain optimization (SCO), (e.g. cost workshops, total SCO), low performance supplier activities. 

Follow market- and technology development in its area of expertise.

Education & Experience Required: BE/B.Tech in Mechanical /Metallurgy/ Electrical Engineering/ Automobile Engg from reputed institutes . 

4 to 8 years’ sourcing experience as a Buyer in reputed automotive companies ,

Hands on experience Sourcing of Engine Parts / Electrical parts / Electronics parts etc is highly preferred.

Thorough knowledge of the Supplier base and Market dynamics in these commodity segments..
