Razorpay was founded by Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar in 2015. Razorpay is building a new-age digital banking hub (Neobank) for businesses in India. The Role :

You are someone who believes that good design has a role in the solution to every problem. You know that design is not just how things look and feel, but also how every process evolves. Even mundane processes from daily life can be made easier with design. You love products and have great creative skills. You want to own and be responsible for designing and driving products to completion. You religiously follow Buxton’s rule of producing at least 3 alternatives for every design decision. You respect the grid and hate all the half pixel aligned icons.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Manage the team and the work

• Own multiple teams of multi-disciplinary designers consisting of UX designers, UI designers, Graphic designers, UX Writers, and UX Researchers.
• Along with the design managers, manage various design projects and their priorities. Help the team in resolving blockers. Ensure the output meets business goals, deadlines and raises the quality bar.

2. Shape up product direction and drive design-led projects

• Take part in ideation, planning and prioritization of our diverse range of products & features keeping the short and long-term goals of the organization in mind.
• Find out new directions that we can take in our quest to make payments easy and accessible to all.
• Strategise, prioritize and drive design-led projects. Actively work with the product and engineering counterparts to drive high quality designs throughout.

3. Mentor, Guide and Lead the Team

• Help the teams grow their soft and hard skills. Help them define their career paths, identify opportunities and level up to do the best work of their lives.
• Set the bar high in the team. Help product teams ship high quality products with minimal impact on velocity.

4. Drive and improve the design process

• Iterate upon and improve the design processes to introduce the best practices within the team. Bring in users to the center of the process and encourage design & product decisions to be backed by user-behavior and data.
• Create frameworks and guidelines for the team to deliver better and faster.
• Conduct design reviews and status meetings. Facilitate design sprints, workshops, brainstorming sessions.
• Prioritize research and design improvement opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

5. Work with cross-disciplinary teams

• Work closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing and various Business teams to deliver delightful customer experiences. Ensure that projects are well-defined, high impact, and successfully executed.
• Collaborate with your peers in leadership to define a strategic vision for what we build, helping focus on solving user problems.

6. Design Evangelism, inside and outside

• Be a strong advocate for exceptional user experiences and demonstrate their impact. Evangelize the goals of design and communicate them to the product, engineering and other teams in the organization.
• Help your counterparts on Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams understand the values/principles of good design.
• Represent Razorpay outside by speaking in external design conferences/meetups, publishing blogs/articles or running events.

7. Hire, Build and Scale team

• Attract and hire excellent designers across all roles. Create the systems for you (and others) to effectively evaluate and hire multidisciplinary designers.

Mandatory Qualifications:

• You are someone who increases the effectiveness of the entire team, not just your direct reports – a leader and an example-setter. You are effective even when you're not even in the room. Your processes are celebrated, emulated and copied by teams in and out of the organization.
• You are an amazing designer who has shipped out many great designs.
• At least 6-8 years of experience in designing digital products. Experience in working at a product organization with multiple product managers and engineers as your counterparts.
• A portfolio of great design work, executed either by teams that you led, that conveys an ability to ship successful products that people love.
• A great understanding of Visual Design with relentless attention to detail and consistency.
• You’re product-minded and intensely customer-focused. You care about design all the way from a strategic level down to design details and getting the pixels right.
• You understand the importance of research and data. You go data-driven when applicable and understand the nuances of it. Experience with various analytics tools like Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc would be a plus point.
• You have at least 2-3 years of experience in leading & managing design teams. You have been managing, coaching and leading multi-disciplinary design teams. You’re passionate about developing designers’ skills and careers. You have experience in working with product, design, and engineering leaders in setting the right practices. You know how to manage, grow, and hire design leaders.
• You love change and know how to manage it. You can work effectively in a dynamic environment, juggle between multiple teams, and prioritize work. Experience working in Agile/Scrum development processes is a big plus. You inspire and motivate people to do their best work fully aligned with business goals.
• You have excellent communication and presentation skills. You are able to clearly articulate design decisions within a larger context to the team and leadership. You actively help the team resolve blockers and set the team up for success.
