Role Overview:

We are seeking an  IRS MeF Subject Matter Expert  with proven experience integrating with the IRS Modernized e-File system. This is a consulting/advisory engagement (remote OK). You will guide our team through  architecture, XML schema mapping, validation, ATS testing, and production approval .

Responsibilities:

  • Advise on  IRS MeF architecture, Pub 4164, and compliance standards .
  • Assist with XML schema mapping  for Form 1040 (Phase 1), plus other forms later (1065, 1120, 2290, 941).
  • Build or review a validation pipeline  (XSD + business rules).
  • Support ATS (Assurance Testing System)  submission and help resolve reject codes.
  • Guide on secure transport, certificates, and Submission ID tracking .
  • Provide documentation and best practices  for our dev team.
  • (Optional) Ongoing advisory for schema/business rule updates each tax year.

Requirements:

  • Hands-on MeF integration experience  (must have helped pass ATS for 1040/1065/1120/2290, etc.).
  • Deep knowledge of IRS Pub 4164  and  ATS process .
  • Strong skills in XML schema validation, business rule checks, error/reject resolution .
  • Familiarity with IRS WSDLs, secure transport, and certificates .
  • Prior work at Intuit, Drake, H&R Block, TaxSlayer, Wolters Kluwer, Sovos, Thomson Reuters , or as a MeF integrator/consultant is a plus.
  • Excellent communication — ability to translate IRS rules into dev requirements.
