The Head of the Science Department (HOD) will lead and manage the academic and administrative functions of the department, ensuring excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. The HOD will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to promote a culture of innovation, academic rigor, and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Academic Leadership:
- Lead the department in planning and delivering a high-quality academic curriculum.
- Monitor and evaluate teaching quality and learning outcomes to ensure academic excellence.
- Encourage and facilitate interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to teaching and research.
- Supervise course development and implementation in alignment with institutional policies and accreditation requirements.
2. Research and Development:
- Promote and support faculty and student research initiatives.
- Foster collaborations with industry, academia, and funding agencies for research projects.
- Ensure research output is of high quality and contributes to the academic reputation of the institution.
3. Administrative Duties:
- Manage departmental budgets, resources, and infrastructure efficiently.
- Oversee faculty recruitment, training, and performance appraisals.
- Coordinate departmental meetings and maintain effective communication within the department and with other institutional units.
- Prepare reports, proposals, and documentation as required by the institution or external agencies.
4. Student Engagement:
- Provide mentorship and guidance to students, ensuring their academic and professional growth.
- Address student concerns and grievances related to the department in a timely manner.
- Organize co-curricular and extracurricular activities to enhance student learning.
5. Strategic Planning:
- Develop and execute strategic plans for the department to achieve institutional goals.
- Stay updated with trends in Science Sports education and integrate them into the department's academic and research framework.
6. Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure compliance with statutory and accreditation requirements.
- Regularly review and update departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
Qualifications and Experience:
Educational Background:
Ph. D. in Sports Science or related disciplines such as Exercise Physiology, Bio-mechanics, Sports Medicine, Sports Psychology, Physical Education, Life Sciences, Human Physiology, Kinesiology, Applied Sports Sciences, Human Performance, Rehabilitation Science, Sports and Health Sciences, Movement Science, Sports Technology, or other fields that significantly contribute to sports performance, development, health, and fitness.
Incase , the candidate has Ph. D in regular Science also can be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of teaching and research experience in a higher education institution, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role such as Associate Professor or HOD.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to foster a positive and collaborative departmental culture.
- Expertise in curriculum design, pedagogy, and research methodologies.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with accreditation processes and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge & Interest in Sports will be an added advantage.
Work Conditions:
- Full-time position based on campus.
- Flexible to attend events or meet deadlines outside regular working hours when necessary.
