Every enterprise needs to create custom internal applications, spending between 10% to 40% of their engineering resources on them.

Roles and Responsibilities


Design at Appsmith


We are on a mission to build a low-code platform that is the fastest and most-efficient for developers to build internal tools. Design plays a critical role in helping us get there. Attention to detail and focusing on simplicity is something that we strive for.


We have designers across India and Europe and we love to keep it light and have fun. Designers collaborate with engineers and product managers right from the start and own the projects they work in.


What will you be doing


- Lead the design process for a core experience of the product.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, conducting research and developing design strategies to solve for product goals.

- Create high-quality design solutions that are consistent with the design system. You will also help in refining the existing patterns with your expertise.

- Shipping and measurement: Ensure your design gets translated well to code through close collaboration with engineering. Define and track success metrics for your work.

- Providing mentorship and guidance: The lead product designer provides mentorship and guidance to junior designers, helping them to develop their skills and grow in their careers.


Must have skills


- 8+ years product design experience.

- Strong systems thinker. Passionate about the big picture and the details.

- A strong knowledge in the fields of Information architecture and Interaction Design.

- **Craft obsession:** A keen eye for details in copy and hands-on visual design is a must. (We don’t expect you to draw icons/illustrations, but that is a bonus if you can)

- Ability to nurture / mentor a group of designers in their craft. **Kindness above all else.**

- Excellent presentation and communication skills to get the team on board with your vision.

- Experience in working with of component-based design systems.

- Very high ownership — Ability to thrive in startups with a fast-paced environment and take ownership for working through ambiguity.


ℹ️ People with prior experience in designing developer tools, IDEs, canvas-based tools is a big plus for this role.


Please submit a portfolio of some of your work demonstrating strong user focus, methodical solutions to complex problems, efficient interaction design, and a superb attention to detail.


Remote working : Appsmith is a fully distributed and remote team.


What is the recruitment process?


As a small team, it’s imperative that all of us get to know each other before taking the leap. We want to ensure you succeed in your role within our team. Each conversation (video conference) with us will last about 60 mins. Typically the whole process takes between 2 - 10 business days depending on your and our schedules.


Introductory call: A phone call with one of the founders that give us a chance to introduce our company & product to you as well as get to know you. If you find our product vision interesting & exciting for you to work on, we will move to the next steps.


Portfolio discussion: A conversation about your past work and portfolio evaluation by one of our design team members.


Design problem discussion : This is a remote design discussion to discuss 1 or 2 design problems and work through their solutions.


Culture fit conversation : Interviews with founders and team members to ensure that there is a culture-fit.


Extending an offer : If all goes well, we will extend an offer, which includes financial benefits, equity stock grants, and any other benefits.
