Senior System Administrator

The Senior System Administrator shall be responsible for ensuring the stability, security, compliance, and performance of the organization's IT infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. The following is the JD that defines the responsibilities, deliverables, and expectations for this role.

1. System Administration

• Manage, monitor, and maintain Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS) servers, both on-premises and cloud-hosted.
• Ensure high availability and performance of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, file/print servers, and Exchange/SMTP services.
• Perform OS patching, upgrades, and preventive maintenance with documented change windows and minimal downtime.
• Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell, Bash, or equivalent scripting tools.
• Maintain accurate system documentation, SOPs, and change logs.

2. Network Administration

• Configure, secure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and load balancers (Cisco, Fortinet, pfSense, or equivalent).
• Monitor and optimize LAN/WAN performance, bandwidth utilization, and connectivity across multiple sites.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network outages, performance bottlenecks, and escalated incidents.
• Ensure redundancy, failover readiness, and proactive monitoring via Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG, or equivalent tools.

3. Security & Compliance

• Implement and manage endpoint security, antivirus, IDS/IPS, and multi-factor authentication.
• Enforce role-based access control (RBAC), least-privilege principles, and encryption policies.
• Conduct and support vulnerability assessments, remediation, and compliance audits (HIPAA, ISO, HITRUST).
• Maintain logs and records for incident response, security investigations, and compliance evidence.

4. Cloud & Virtualization

• Administer AWS, Azure, and/or OCI infrastructure, including compute (VMs/EC2), storage, networking, and IAM.
• Manage VMware, Hyper-V, or Proxmox virtualized environments, including resource allocation, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Configure and maintain backup, replication, snapshots, and disaster recovery plans.
• Execute and support infrastructure migrations, scaling, and cloud modernization projects.

5. Support & Incident Management

• Act as L3 escalation point for infrastructure and networking incidents.
• Provide hands-on support during deployments, migrations, upgrades, and cutovers.
• Ensure incident, problem, and change management practices are followed.
• Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours maintenance windows as required.

6. Tools & Platforms

The Employee shall be expected to demonstrate hands-on expertise with:

• Operating Systems: Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, Linux Ubuntu/CentOS.
• Core Services: Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, GPOs, Exchange/SMTP.
• Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, VPN, firewalls, load balancers.
• Virtualization: VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox.
• Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure, OCI.
• Backup & DR: Veeam, Acronis, Bacula (or equivalent).
• Monitoring: Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG.

7. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain infrastructure topology diagrams, asset inventories, and configuration baselines.
• Document standard operating procedures, incident reports, RCA (Root Cause Analysis) reports, and compliance logs.
• Provide monthly infrastructure health reports to management, highlighting risks, incidents, and improvements.

8. Professional Expectations

• Uphold confidentiality and data privacy policies at all times.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, Security, and Application Support.
• Provide knowledge transfer, mentoring, and training to junior IT staff.
• Continuously update skills and pursue relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Azure, CCNA, Security+, RHCE, VCP).
• Maintain clear communication with management during incidents, planned outages, and projects.

9. Deliverables & KPIs

The Employee's performance will be evaluated on:

• System Uptime & Availability – maintaining agreed SLAs (e.g., ≥99.9%).
• Patch Compliance – timely application of critical patches across systems.
• Incident Resolution – response and closure within SLA timelines.
• Security Posture – zero critical vulnerabilities unaddressed beyond defined windows.
• Documentation Quality – updated, accurate, and auditable system/process documentation.
• Project Delivery – successful completion of assigned infrastructure projects within scope and timelines.
