Solution Architect – GCP Data Warehouse Migration

Description:

We are seeking a Solution Architect with hands-on expertise in GCP Data Warehouse migrations to lead the design, execution, and delivery of a complex Teradata-to-GCP migration project. The ideal candidate will be both a strategic thinker and an execution-focused leader capable of guiding a team through all phases of the migration process, ensuring successful outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

Architectural Design and Planning

Design the overall GCP architecture and strategy for migrating data from Teradata.

Develop detailed plans for GCP Landing Zone setup, infrastructure setup, and data pipelines.

Ensure compliance with data security and regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, PCI DSS).

Execution and Hands-on Leadership

Lead the implementation of the GCP Landing Zone, including networking, IAM, and VPC setup.

Configure and deploy GCP resources such as BigQuery, Dataflow, and Pub/Sub.

Drive the migration of data (40 TB+), ETL workflows (~3,000 ETL jobs), and reports (~700 reports).

Team Leadership

Build, mentor, and lead a cross-functional team of data engineers, BI/reporting specialists, and QA testers.

Collaborate with DevOps and GCP engineers for infrastructure and CI/CD pipeline management.

Coordinate with trainers for knowledge transfer and operational handover.

Testing, Validation, and Optimization

Ensure comprehensive testing of migrated data, workflows, and reporting tools.

Optimize performance of GCP workloads, including query tuning and resource management.

Address unforeseen challenges such as data quality issues or tool incompatibility.

Documentation and Handover

Document architecture, migration steps, troubleshooting guides, and workflows.

Lead the training and handover to the client's cloud operations team.


Experience:

8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure and data migration projects.

Proven experience in GCP architecture, including BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and IAM.

Strong understanding of Teradata architecture and migration complexities.


Technical Skills:

Expertise in ETL tools such as DataStage and reporting tools like Cognos, Tableau, and Power BI.

Proficiency in DevOps tools (Terraform, Jenkins, Git) and scripting (Python/Shell).

Hands-on experience with database migration and validation (30,000+ tables/views).
