Job Title : Technical Specialist

Location : Mumbai

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Backup & Storage Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will have a strong hands-on background in implementing, configuring, and managing enterprise backup and storage solutions, with a specific focus on Veritas Backup Exec, Veeam, and NetApp storage systems. This role requires in-depth technical expertise, strong problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills to ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of backup and storage infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Backup Solution Implementation & Management:

  • Install, configure, and maintain enterprise backup solutions such as Veritas Backup Exec and Veeam Backup & Replication.

  • Design and implement backup strategies that align with RTO (Recovery Time Objectives) and RPO (Recovery Point Objectives).

  • Perform regular backup tests and disaster recovery drills to ensure data recoverability.

  • Storage Systems Administration:

  • Manage and maintain NetApp storage systems, including provisioning storage, performing upgrades, applying patches, and system tuning.

  • Monitor storage capacity and performance, and make recommendations for improvements or scaling.

  • Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis:

  • Proactively identify and resolve issues related to backups or storage environments.

  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for incidents or system failures and document corrective actions.

  • Protocols & Best Practices:

  • Work with storage protocols such as SAN, NAS, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel.

  • Ensure adherence to backup and storage best practices, including data retention policies and compliance requirements.

  • Systems Integration:

  • Collaborate with system and network administrators to ensure optimal performance and integration with Windows and Linux environments.

  • Ensure backup and storage systems are integrated with other enterprise monitoring and alerting tools.

  • Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of backup/storage configurations, procedures, and policies.

  • Generate and present backup and storage performance reports to stakeholders.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 45 years of hands-on experience with Veritas Backup Exec and Veeam backup platforms.
  • Solid understanding of NetApp storage systems including setup, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting backup/storage failures and conducting RCA.
  • Strong knowledge of SAN, NAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel protocols and architectures.
  • Good working knowledge of Windows Server and Linux environments as they relate to backup and storage.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and team coordination.

Preferred (Nice to Have):

  • Certifications in Veritas, Veeam, or NetApp technologies.
  • Experience with cloud-based backup/storage solutions (e.g., Azure Backup, AWS S3, Glacier).
  • Scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash) for automation of routine backup/storage tasks.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes or enterprise change management.
