CAT MODELLING ANALYST
Role Purpose :
This role involves performing catastrophe modeling as well as providing support to reinsurance, exposure management, risk management, and other corporate functions.
The Analyst collects, prepares, and analyses complex data for use in catastrophe exposure examination, reinsurance recovery, and reinsurance placement needs. The role is expected to use catastrophe modelling software and mapping tools to assist in analyzing corporate risk levels.
Key Accountabilities :
Runs technical software programs that simulate catastrophic events. Maintains accurate data input for catastrophe exposure monitors and models. Assists in analysis and reporting of results.
Develops risk profiles, provides brokers exposure files and supports other information required for reinsurance placements.
Collects data from various corporate information systems, scrubs and prepares data for analysis.
Provides catastrophe exposure related guidance and reporting to RSA business segments and portfolio managers.
Participates in the quarterly catastrophe model analysis of the UK&I Property portfolio and develops reports and exhibits to communicate current catastrophe risk levels to business leaders.
Supports the validation, update, and enhancement of proprietary catastrophe risk tools. Works with actuarial partners to assist efforts for understanding the impact of catastrophe peril volatility during updates to rating systems.
Assists in reporting of catastrophe loss estimates and exposure data externally to rating agencies, regulatory authorities (e.g. - PRA) and other external entities.
Serves as lead analyst in supporting Cat Modelling needs for Exposure Management objectives such as internal RDS process.
Assists in the development of new risk assessment methodologies for unique lines of business and/or perils.
Takes initiative on internal projects to improve processes, products, or services.
Participates in ad hoc projects involving catastrophe modeling and exposure profiling o ass needed.
Assists in developing and enhancing RSA workflows involving catastrophe modeling and collaborates with technical partners to ensure model deployment and management adhere to internal protocols.
Technical Skills :
Function specific
Experienced catastrophe modeller with direct work in JBA, Verisk (AIR) or RMS model software preferred.
Depth of knowledge in property insurance with some knowledge of static risk (marine, C&E, etc).
Broad insurance experience across a range of lines of business, products, and policy types is also helpful.
Experience of working within analytical functions (catastrophe modelling, actuarial, capital modelling)
Strong understand of reinsurance and ability to translate reinsurance structures into code.
Experience delivering technical analysis results to corporate and business functions.
Good communication and presentation skills
Expert programming skills in SQL. SAS, R, or Python experience also desirable.
Strong project management skills
Strong stakeholder management skills
General
Ability to balance multiple priorities whilst keep focus on executing on top priorities for corporate and business requirements.
Ability to communicate complex statistical terms regarding catastrophe model calculations and output in simplified language easily comprehensible to less technical roles.
Able to think about risk evaluation methods in a creative manner, thinking beyond the constraints of the model vendor output.
Ability to align with Group priorities and standards while providing meaningful results to the UK&I business and related stakeholders.
Developing, mentoring, and coaching staff to ensure the highest level of skills within the catastrophe modelling team.
