RTR - Lease Accounting

Job Title: RTR Lease Accounting Specialist / Senior RTR Lease Accounting (5 15 Yrs) Location: Bangalore, India Function: Finance & Accounting / Record to Report (RTR) Employment Type: Full-time Role Overview The RTR Lease Accounting Specialist is responsible for end-to-end lease accounting activities within the Record to Report (RTR) function. This role ensures accurate monthly close and reporting of lease transactions in compliance with accounting standards (including IFRS16 / ASC 842), performs balance sheet reconciliations, and drives process improvements and internal controls. The position involves close coordination with cross-functional teams including Legal, Real Estate, Finance, and Audit. Key Responsibilities Lease Accounting & RTR Processes Support the month-end and year-end lease accounting close process and prepare detailed reconciliations for lease-related balance sheet accounts. Prepare and record monthly lease journal entries including prepaid rent, accruals, amortization, variable rent and lease cash flows in the accounting system. Interpret lease contracts (operating vs finance leases) and ensure correct recording under applicable standards (IFRS 16 / ASC 842). Maintain lease schedules, discount rates, FX impacts and update payment terms based on amendments or extensions. Reconciliation & Analysis Conduct lease balance reconciliations and resolve open / clearing items; ensure GL subledger alignment. Prepare variance analysis for lease expenses and ensure accuracy of financial results. Reporting, Controls & Compliance Maintain and improve lease accounting policies, SOPs, and procedural documentation. Work with internal and external auditors on lease accounting queries and SOX compliance activities. Ensure robust internal controls around lease data capture, reporting and system updates. Stakeholder Engagement Coordinate with Legal, Real Estate, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and Shared Service teams for lease administration, data gathering and reconciliations. Support ad-hoc lease accounting requests and cross-functional finance projects. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field; professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA) preferred. Experience 5 15 years of accounting experience with significant exposure to lease accounting within RTR or General Ledger functions. Experience in a shared service, multinational environment is a plus. Hands-on experience with lease accounting standards (IFRS 16 or ASC 842). Technical Skills Strong understanding of accounting principles (US GAAP / IFRS). ERP & lease accounting systems experience (SAP, Oracle, LeaseQuery / CoStar) is desirable. Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, macros helpful). Soft Skills Detail-oriented, analytical mindset with strong problem-solving capability. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
