Chief Technology Officer, Solar

The CTO will be responsible for overseeing the technological direction of the company, developing solar energy systems, and managing the engineering and R&D teams (Wafer, Ingot, Cells, Modules). This role requires an experienced leader who can integrate new technologies, drive innovation, and ensure our products and systems align with market needs and sustainability goals.
- Technology Strategy & Leadership:- Lead the development and execution of the company’s technological roadmap and innovation strategy.- Provide strategic guidance on product development, technology trends, and the adoption of emerging technologies in the solar energy space.- Define and oversee technical standards, architecture, and protocols for solar energy systems and related products.- Ensure technology initiatives align with the company’s business goals, growth targets, and sustainability mission.- Product Development & Innovation:- Drive the development of new solar energy products and services, from concept to deployment, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and market competitiveness.- Foster a culture of innovation by keeping the team at the forefront of solar technology, integrating new advances in solar panels, storage solutions, and energy management systems.- Collaborate with the product management and marketing teams to create user-centric solar solutions that address customer needs.- Team Management & Development:- Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing technology team, including software engineers, hardware engineers, and R&D professionals.- Set clear goals, performance metrics, and a positive team culture that encourages creativity, problem-solving, and continuous learning.- Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development within the technology department to ensure the team has the right skills and capacity to meet the company’s objectives.- R&D and Innovation:- Lead R&D efforts for new solar technology initiatives, from research into solar power generation, energy storage solutions, and power optimization technologies.- Identify opportunities to integrate new technologies such as AI, machine learning, IoT, and smart grid solutions into solar energy solutions.- Collaborate with industry experts, universities, and research organizations to remain ahead of technological trends in the renewable energy sector.- Collaboration and Cross-functional Leadership:- Work closely with other departments including sales, marketing, operations, and finance to ensure alignment across the company’s functions.- Present technology strategies, development updates, and product innovations to the executive team and investors.- Collaborate with external partners, suppliers, and contractors to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective technology solutions.- Scalability and Operations:- Ensure the technology infrastructure is scalable and secure to handle growing business needs, including large-scale solar deployments, energy management platforms, and analytics.- Oversee the implementation of best practices for system integration, deployment, and maintenance of solar technology solutions.- Compliance & Risk Management:- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines in all technology and product development processes.- Identify and mitigate technological risks, including cybersecurity threats, data privacy issues, and operational disruptions.
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Renewable Energy, or a related field.- MBA or equivalent business management experience is a plus.
Experience and other Required Skills:
- Proven experience (25+ years) in a senior technology leadership role, ideally as a CTO or Head of Technology, within the renewable energy, cleantech, or energy technology industries.- Expertise in solar energy systems, energy storage, and other renewable technologies.- Strong technical knowledge of hardware and software systems related to solar energy, including solar panels, inverters, battery storage, and energy management software.- Experience in scaling technology operations for fast-growing startups, preferably within an early-stage company.- Proven ability to develop and execute technology strategies that align with business objectives and drive growth.- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build, motivate, and lead cross-functional teams.- Hands-on experience with project management, product development cycles, and agile methodologies.- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, including investors and customers.- A passion for sustainability, clean energy, and driving innovation in the renewable energy space.
