Position Overview:
The Purchase Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement of goods and services
necessary for the company’s operations. This role involves managing supplier relationships,
negotiating contracts, and ensuring that all purchasing activities align with the company’s
budgetary and operational goals. The Purchase Manager will work closely with other
departments to forecast demand, manage inventory, and ensure that supplies are delivered on
time and meet the required standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing:
o Develop and implement effective purchasing strategies.
o Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and maintain strong relationships with
current suppliers.
o Negotiate prices, terms, and contracts with suppliers to secure the best deals.
Procurement Management:
o Oversee the purchase of raw materials, goods, and services to ensure that
production needs are met.
o Ensure that all purchases meet quality standards and comply with company
policies and procedures.
o Monitor stock levels and place orders as needed to avoid shortages or excessive
inventory.
Cost Management:
o Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve
effectiveness.
o Analyze market trends to identify changes that could affect supply and demand,
and make recommendations accordingly.
o Manage the procurement budget and ensure that spending aligns with
organizational goals.
Vendor Management:
o Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, and
managing supplier performance.
o Conduct regular evaluations of supplier performance and address any issues or
concerns that arise.
Compliance and Reporting:
o Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in all purchasing
activities.
o Prepare and present reports on purchasing activities, costs, and performance to
senior management.
Team Leadership:
o Lead and mentor the purchasing team, providing guidance and support as needed.
o Develop training programs for new staff and ongoing professional development
for the team.
Qualifications:
Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a
related field.
o A Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., CPM) is preferred.
Experience:
o 5+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, with at least
2 years in a managerial role.
o Proven experience in vendor negotiation and contract management.
Skills:
o Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
o Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
o Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
Working Conditions:
Office-based environment with occasional travel to supplier locations.
May require working extended hours to meet deadlines.
