Technical Leader - DB Storage

What You'll Do

As a key DB engineer in Cisco's Secure Network Analytics org, part of Cisco's Secure Business Group (SBG), you will work very closely with a team of

Data authorities in enhancing our data storage platforms, writing new support programs and scripts, and fixing database & data access layer. You

Will play a key role not just in creating & scaling our existing storage layer but continuing to optimize them for speed as well. As a hands-on data engineer,

you collaborate with our product and business owners throughout the product lifecycle and develop data and storage solutions that align with our data

strategy. You will mentor other specialists through design reviews and code reviews and will be willing to receive the same. You will care about keeping

The code maintainable, preserving its integrity.

A strict practitioner of sound software engineering and DB engineering practices. You are a curious problem solver who tenaciously researches

Possible solutions to complex issues. You possess strong technical and analytical skills. You follow current data engineering technologies. You are

Comfortable at both a desk and an engineering lab. You have working knowledge of enterprise data landscape and data structures (structured and nonstructural

Data), technologies like Docker, microservices, distributed systems and TDD are part of your abilities or you have a strong desire to learn them.

You are an active learner. You collaborate with other specialists and people in the organization to improve our solution delivery. You believe in Lean/Agile

Principles and actively work to incorporate them in the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

Strong experience in solving sophisticated design problems around large data sets, especially in Columnar DBs

At least 10+ years of hands-on experience as a D ata Engineer

Senior-level experience in working with large data storage systems and authoring advanced queries

Senior-level coding experience in at least one programming language (Java preferred) , commonly used in implementing data engineering solutions

Strong familiarity with Vertica or a similar Columnar Database (install, upgrade, schema, migration, performance tuning, SQL queries)

Good Exposure to No-SQL and Big Data technologies

Good understanding of networking protocols and tools

Success in an Agile Scrum environment in support of a continuous product delivery

Desired Skills

Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker

Familiarity with Network Security or Information Technology domain space
