Position: Head of IT

Position Type: Onsite, Full-Time

Department: Information Technology (IT)

Reports To: Vice Chancellor


Responsibilities:

Responsible for strategy, administration, technical and financial management of IT infrastructure of the University, including ERM software, Website, Computing and Networking infrastructure. Handle licensing and vendor relations and ensure user community support and compliance. This includes (but not limited to):

• Develop and implement IT strategies that align with the university's goals and objectives. Ensure the IT infrastructure supports the academic, research, and administrative needs of the university.

• Compute servers and infrastructures (e.g., high performance servers, PC, Laptop, UPS, printers etc.)

• Network infrastructure (Ethernet LAN, Wi-Fi, WAN connectivity (ISP), Firewall, video network for institute security etc.)

• Cloud infrastructure (e.g., google, 3rd party ...) and hosted applications 

• Website and social media (FB, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram ...) infra support, expansion, guidance and support

• 3rd party software and firmware license management

• Commercial software development (on/off-campus) supporting industry partnership, on-campus/off-campus startups, and institute’s inhouse developed products and solutions (e.g. ERM...)  


In addition, the candidate is expected have experience and vision for digital transformation of the institute IT infrastructure as per current and future technology need (e.g. migrating to hosted cloud infrastructure), evaluation and recommendation of 3rd party software and hardware as required. Candidate must have knowledge on latest software development technologies (micro service architecture, Dockers, Kubbernets ...) and cloud compute models (public, private, hybrid cloud, VNFs ...) and its management is important. Experience in managing leading university’s IT infrastructure, and system is big plus. 


It is leadership position, expecting to manage around 12-15 experienced IT staff and software developers in different domains (Database, UX, Web, Network Admin, social media etc.). In this leadership position, candidate must be able to guide, support and hire IT staff members. Candidate must have strong interest for industry partnership/collaboration and development of entrepreneurial activities at the institute. Candidate must be visionary with excellent communication, presentation and leadership skill to lead institute’s IT department and to build it as a vibrant center in support of current and future need. Candidate must be very much aware of safety, security and privacy policies related to IT.


Essential Qualifications:  

The ideal candidate must have an undergraduate (preferably post graduate) degree in engineering from a recognized university, specifically in the areas of computer science, IT, communication engineering. The candidate must have significant experience in industry and/or university, specifically in managing and guiding large IT infrastructure and hardware systems. Candidate must be well versed with modern day technologies/programming, cloud computing and communication infrastructure.

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in IT, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

• Proven experience in strategic planning and execution of IT initiatives.

• Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems, and applications.

• Excellent understanding of data security, compliance, and risk management.

• Strong project management skills and experience with Agile methodologies.
