What are the Key Deliverables in this role?

Health Supplements is an important vertical of the Organic India portfolio, with a lot of expansion and growth foreseen for the organization. This role will lead the Product Development efforts for this vertical, with the expectation that by virtue of their prior work experience and technical categories they will fulfill the Innovation ambition in Supplements/ Ayurveda / Organic categories across product formats of capsules, tablets, powders, liquids etc. and be accountable for the On Time in Full (OTIF) technical delivery.


Financial Outcomes

  • Product Design and Development: identify and adapt new technologies, materials, and processes to create disruptive offerings in Supplements category and hence create value proposition for business.
  • Proactively managing project risks and issues, identifying potential impacts on cost, quality, and timeline.
  • Collaborate in product cost improvement projects by identifying opportunities in the current business and thereby improving the margins and the company bottom line.


Customer Service

  • Collaborate in process development work streams and work with internal teams to ensure achievement of expected delivery on assigned projects along with robust process scale up and technology transfer to factories.
  • Lead interaction with colleagues in Certification and Regulatory to ensure regulatory and company requirements including Organic certification requirements are met and required documentation made in Specification Management Systems.
  • Representing R&D in cross-functional teams across Supplements projects.
  • Engaging with external partners like ingredient suppliers and contract manufacturers effectively.


Internal Processes

  • Managing the end-to-end development process from concept to launch for both India and International markets, ensuring complete visibility and traceability of work. This involves: -
  • Conducting technical feasibility studies.
  • Defining development strategy – in home/outsourced/ combination.
  • Executing consumer research plans.
  • Documenting ingredient and product specifications, and keeping accurate records of all bench-top, pilot plant and production trials.
  • Conducting Shelf-life studies
  • Implementing project management methodologies to streamline R&D processes, ensuring that projects-adhere to scope, budget, and timeline constraints.
  • Management of concurrent innovation projects at different stages within the NPD process


Innovation and Learning

  • Horizon scanning for innovative Ayurvedic / Nutraceutical ingredients and technologies.
  • Generate new ideas in relation to product/ technology platforms aligned with business priorities.
  • Keep pace with emerging trends.
  • Leverage industry network / vendor base.
  • Use own creativity to develop new ideas and concepts.


What are the Critical success factors for the Role?

  • Master’s degree in food technology / Ayurveda / Pharmacy or other related discipline.
  • 5-7 years minimum experience of working within a product development / innovation team, ideally within the FMCG or Ayurvedic Wellness industry involving Ayurveda / Nutraceutical / Organic product categories.
