Summary
The creative director (CD) is responsible for their team’s output in terms of creativity. He/She will be the one upholding the copywriting team’s work to the highest standard of quality. The CD will work with their counterparts from the art, client servicing, creative strategy and other teams to spearhead winning pitches, ensure high quality creative work on existing brand work, proactively drive ideation for clients and push for initiatives within the creative team to boost productivity, morale, and innovative thinking.
The creative director will need to keep not just their own team inspired, but also inspire others on the floor. They must be agile, adaptable, and harbor the highest creative aspirations for themselves and their team members. They will continually track their team’s performance and make improvements as needed. The creative director is expected to maintain great relationships with creative partners outside of the agency and help source good partners for projects as and when needed.
The creative director is expected to bring a fresh perspective to creative work, encourage lateral thinking within the creative team, and champion rigorous zero-error creative work that always meets the deadline.
Key Responsibility Areas:
Uphold themselves and their copy team to the highest standards of creative thinking, copy quality, and strategic problem solving through creative ideas.
Inculcate a rock-solid understanding of creative strategy within the creative team
Actively mentor and train team members and develop strong interpersonal relationships across the floor that result in strong creative work
Take full responsibility for better copy quality and zero-error work at every level within the copy team
Champion creative experiments in the art of presentations, narrative structures, and brainstorming tactics.
Champion collaboration with other departments and lead by example in all aspects of creative collaboration.
Take charge of pitch narratives and ensure business and strategic alignment on all creative work. Drive strong research practices, continuous learning,
Partners with all vertical counterparts to enhance quality, productivity, and profitability of the group’s work.
Inculcates and promote IA values in every thought and action which will contribute to overall office morale, spirit, character and work quality.
Skills
Exceptional communication and writing skills across all digital and creative mediums.
Proficient in creative strategy, must be familiar with insight mining through secondary research, first-party data, must have keen observational skills and inculcate this within the team.
Must possess the ability to think strategically and logically in terms of campaign planning, media planning, and communication planning.
Must possess knowledge, interest, and experience in brand building.
Must be able to put together pitch winning presentations, have a strong grasp on excellent slide writing and designing and be able to guide the team on the same.
Must be skilled in creative thinking across all online and offline formats.
Must possess the ability to identify and amplify ‘the big idea’ in creative across multiple formats and must possess big picture thinking.
Must be able to write award winning case studies in written and AV formats.
Must have a keen awards focus when it comes to work and be able to predict awards potential in work and drive all work towards winning awards in domestic and international award shows.
Must hold all creative thinking to the highest standards as demonstrated by internationally award winning work.
Must be able to put together solid, unique, and unexpected references as and when required.
Must be proficient in AI tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, Dall-E and use these tools as and when needed to enhance productivity and creativity.
Must be a team player, collaborative in nature, strive to give actionable and objective feedback that helps shape better creative work.
Must be an empathetic leader – willing to train and help all team members and not just their own.
Qualifications Education and requirements:
B.A. in Creative Writing, Communication Arts, or equivalent strongly preferred
Must possess at least seven+ years of experience (non-technical) for an ad agency and have managed copy, content and/or creative teams before.
Must have domestic and/or international awards in their portfolio from bodies like The Ad Club, Kyoorius, IAMAI, Campaign India, Campaign Asia, Spikes, Clio, One Show, The Drum, or Cannes Lions.
A strong, highly creative, and versatile portfolio with proof of own skills and ability to lead teams to produce great work.
