Sr. SQL Application Database Administrator (DBA) / Developer for On-Premise and Cloud

(Hybrid - Gurgaon/Bangalore/Pune)


Job Overview:

We seek a versatile Application Database Administrator (DBA) who can manage both on-premises and cloud-based database environments. This role is crucial for ensuring our databases' optimal performance, security, and scalability across different platforms. The ideal candidate should have a solid database administration background and additional cloud technologies and services skills. Application DBAs drive strategic initiatives such as cloud migrations by leveraging their in-depth knowledge of database technologies and cloud platforms, ensuring that such transitions support broader business objectives. Candidates play a vital role in optimizing cloud database performance and resource utilization, which impacts application efficiency and operational costs. This role is designed for a DBA who thrives in diverse environments by combining traditional and cutting-edge database management practices to support our evolving IT landscape.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Build relationships with stakeholders and develop an understanding of their needs
  • Run meetings. Document take-away’s and deliverables.
  • Project manage key initiatives.
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and performance tuning of both on-premise databases and databases hosted in cloud environments.
  • Lead initiatives for migrating on-premise databases to cloud platforms, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity. Develop strategies for integrating databases across on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Implement monitoring, indexing, and query optimization techniques tailored to each environment. Adjust strategies based on the specific characteristics and capabilities of on-premise and cloud services.
  • Enforce stringent security measures, access controls, and encryption practices to protect data and ensure compliance with data protection regulations across all platforms.
  • Design and manage disaster recovery plans encompassing on-premise and cloud databases. Ensure high availability and minimal data loss in the event of failure.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud resource utilization to control costs without compromising performance. Leverage auto-scaling and other cloud-native features for efficiency.
  • Work closely with IT, development teams, and cloud architects to align database strategies with application needs and business goals. Serve as a subject matter expert on database technologies and cloud services.


Skills and Qualifications:


  • A minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience managing medium/large enterprise database platforms
  • Analytical skills – the ability to troubleshoot and logically assess problems and determine solutions
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience managing databases in both on-premise and cloud environments, including direct experience with major cloud providers.
  • Strong command of SQL and database design and familiarity with various database technologies (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server). Proficiency in cloud services and database-as-a-service (DBaaS) offerings.
  • Certifications in database administration and cloud technologies (e.g. Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Certified Database Specialty ) are highly desirable.
  • Ability to tackle complex database issues, balancing performance, and cost considerations in hybrid environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to effectively collaborate with teams and document database architectures and procedures.
  • Financial Services Experience preferred.
